Bafta Film Awards 2023 Nominations

The nominations for the 2023 BAFTA Film Awards have been announced. Netflix's German-language WWI drama "All Quiet on the Western Front" leads the pack with 14 nominations, including Best Film, equaling the BAFTAs non-English language film record previously set by Ang Lee's "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon", but also the record set by 2011's "The King's Speech".

Martin McDonagh's "The Banshees of Inisherin" and Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert's "Everything Everywhere All At Once" are tied with 10 nods each, while Baz Luhrmann's "Elvis" is close behind with 9 nominations. "Tar" scored 5 nods, including Best Leading Actress (Cate Blanchett).

Other contenders include "Aftersun", "The Batman", "Good Luck to You", "Leo Grande", "Top Gun: Maverick" and "The Whale", each film scoring four nominations. James Cameron's "Avatar: The Way of Water" only managed to score two nods, for Best Sound and Visual Effects.

bafta-2020-winners-complete-list

The war epic "1917" is unstoppable on its road to the Oscars. The film dominated the 73rd British Academy of Film and Television's Film Awards, winning seven awards out of nine nominations, including Best Film and Best Director (Sam Mendes). While "Joker" received the most nominations (11), it only managed to score 3 three wins for Best Actor (Joaquin Phoenix), Original Score (Hildur Guđnadóttir) and the inaugural casting BAFTA award.

"Parasite" won for Original Screenplay, confirming its recent WGA victory, and Film Not in the English Language. Scorsese's "The Irishman" went home empty-handed, even though it went in with a total of 10 nominations.

Bafta Awards 2019 Alfonso Cuaron Roma Winner

The big winners at the 2019 British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards were "Roma" and "The Favorurite". Alfonso Cuaron's black-and-white Netflix film won Best Film, Film Not in the English Language, Director and Cinematography, while the British period drama, which entered the competition with 12 nods, ended up with seven trophies, including wins for two of its actresses, Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz.

baftas-2019-nominations-the-favourite

The nominations for the 2019 British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards have been announced. Yorgos Lanthimos' British satire "The Favourite" scored 12 nominations, including "Best Film" and nods for its three actresses Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone.

Other major contenders include "Bohemian Rhapsody", "First Man", "Roma" and "A Star is Born" with seven nominations each, "BlacKkKlansman" with five, and "Cold War" and "Green Book" with four apiece.

The BAFTAs will be handed out at London's Royal Albert Hall on Sunday, February 10, and the ceremony will be hosted once again by Joanna Lumley.
