Anthony Mackie Ben Mendelsohn Emily Alyn Lind Sharon Stone Star In David Mamets New Film

Anthony Mackie ("Captain America: Brave New World"), Ben Mendelsohn ("Dark Knight Rises"), Emily Alyn Lind ("We Were Liars") and Oscar nominee Sharon Stone ("Casino") have signed on to star in Pulitzer winner David Mamet's new film, a Hollywood satire based on his own Tony-winning play "Speed the Plow". The 1988 play starred Joe Mantegna, Ron Silver, and Madonna. Mamet directs from his own script.

The film will be set at the fictional American Prestige Studios, where junior executive Bob Grant (Mackie) is appointed to a head of production role. Grant is emotionally and philosophically unsuited to a job overseeing the production of schlock, but is aided, or impeded, by a studio time server, Charlie Fox (Mendelsohn); an office temp, Karen (Lind); and crazed movie star Gemma Speed (Stone).

The film is produced by Filmopoly's Vince Jolivette ("The Disaster Artist") and Richie Hill ("Hunting Season"); Steak & Rosé's Tyler Payne and Douglas Riggs ("Perfect"); Jiarui Guo and Anthony Short. Executive producers are Alan B. Bursteen, Dawn Bursteen, Steve and Jack Greenberg of Pangaea Studios, Emily Hunter Salveson, and Angie Sanfilippo.

Mamet isbest known for his hit play "Glengarry Glen Ross", which he also adapted for the big screen. He also penned scripts for films like "The Postman Always Rings Twice", "The Untouchables", "Ronin", "The Edge" and "Wag The Dog". His directing filmography includes "The Spanish Prisoner" and "Heist".

Viggo Mortensen Shia Labeouf Courtney Love Jfk Assassination Thriller

Previously titled "2 Days/1963", the upcoming thriller "Assassination" is assembling quite an impressive cast which now includes Courtney Love, Viggo Mortensen, Shia LaBeouf, Al Pacino and John Travolta.

Here is the film's official synopsis: "1963. During a crucial justice hearing against organized crime, the head of the Chicago mob orders the assassination of President John F. Kennedy Jr., creating a deadly conspiracy while altering the fate of a nation.". The film is said to take place 48 hours before the assassination, telling the mob's version of the story.

Directed by Pulitzer Prize winner and Oscar nominee David Mamet ("Wag the Dog"), the film is written by Mamet and Nicholas Celozzi, who based the script on his great uncle, the Chicago mob boss Sam Giancana, who may have played a significant role in orchestrating Kennedy’s assassination. According to details shared by Celozzi's late uncle Pepe (Giancana’s brother), the mob's hand in the assassination was payback for the president's alleged snubbing of Giancana and his campaign against organized crime, despite his reliance on the mob during elections.

Oscar-winning director of photography Robert Elswitt ("There Will Be Blood"), is the film's cinematographer. Production is scheduled to start in September in Vancouver.

Cate Blanchett Picture

Cate Blanchett is set to star in writer/director David Mamet's JFK assassination conspiracy thriller "Blackbird". Blanchett will play a woman named Janet who travels to Los Angeles for the funeral of her grandfather, a Hollywood visual effects artist who moonlighted for U.S. special ops agencies. Her grandfather’s well-kept secrets become a threat to her, forcing Janet to discover the truth about a man who dedicated his life to making illusion reality. "Blackbird" will shoot in Sidney.

Emily Blunt Picture

Emily Blunt will join James Cordern, Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep in the musical "Into the Woods" directed by Rob Marshall ("Chicago"). The story focuses on a Baker (Cordern) and his wife (Blunt) as they venture into the woods to confront the witch (Streep) who put a curse on them. Chris Pine, Jake Gyllenhaal and Christine Baranski are also in talks to join the film.

Gerard Butler Picture

Gerard Butler will join the sci-fi thriller "The Raven" in which he will play "a man with remarkable powers who is being chased by the government and the military who both want those powers working for them." "The Raven" is based on a short film directed by Ricardo de Montreuil and it will be produced by Mark Wahlberg and Steve Levinson.

Bruce Willis Picture

Bruce Willis will star in the thriller "Expiration" as "a hitman who is poisoned and has to find a cure before he expires". The script is written by Brian Tucker ("Broken City") and the producers are still shopping for a director.

Amber Heard Picture Zac Efron Picture
Amber Heard and Zac Efron have joined the cast of the thriller "Autobahn". The film will be directed by Eran Creevy ("Welcome to the Punch") and the story is focused on "an American backpacker who must protect his girlfriend and flee Europe after he ends up as a driver for German drug smugglers." Filming begins this fall in Germany.

Phil Spector Biopic Starring Al Pacino

HBO has released the first trailer for "Phil Spector", a biopic based on the life of the famous music producer, written and directed by the legendary David Mamet ("Glengarry Glen Ross", "The Untouchables"). The film stars Al Pacino as Spector, Helen Mirren and Jeffrey Tambor. The film covers not only his music career, but also his murder trial which resulted in a second-degree murder conviction in 2003. "Phil Spector" premieres on March 24, 2013.
