DVD & Blu-ray: THE SUICIDE SQUAD (2021) Starring Margot Robbie and Idris Elba

Product Description: Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today's do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone's favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller's government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they're dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone's laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.

weekend-box-office-free-guy

The Ryan Reynolds starrer "Free Guy" dominated the weekend box-office with a stronger than expected debut. Meanwhile, the horror sequel "Don't Breathe 2" and the Aretha Franklin biopic "Respect" also proved strong enough to topple the likes of "Jungle Cruise" and "The Suicide Squad".

Sylvester Stallone joins THE SUICIDE SQUAD sequel
Sylvester Stallone has joined the cast of the "Suicide Squad" sequel. The casting was announced by writer/director James Gunn on Instagram.

Stallone himself confirmed his participation by posting a video to Instagram acknowledging he was on his way to go film a scene. Stallone previously worked with Gunn on "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2", in which he played Stakar Ogord, who turns into the hero Starhawk.

The cast features Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, John Cena as Peacemaker, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Peter Capaldi, Nathan Fillion as T.D.K. and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. Gunn also penned the script, and used the '80s Suicide Squad comics as inspiration.

Gunn also has a Suicide Squad spinoff series in the works. Titled "Peacemaker", the show centers on Cena's character, and it's currently in development at HBO Max. Danielle Brooks, Chris Conrad, Jennifer Holland and Robert Patrick have already been cast. Gunn is writing the series, and will also direct several episodes, including the pilot.

"The Suicide Squad" will open in theaters on August 6, 2021.

Idris Elba to replace Will Smith in Suicide Squad 2
Idris Elba is very close to joining the DC Comics cinematic universe as sources report that the actor is in talks with Warner Bros to replace Will Smith as Deadshot in the upcoming "Suicide Squad" sequel. Smith had to drop out last week due to scheduling conflicts.

The sequel, simply titled "The Suicide Squad" will be directed by "Guardians of the Galaxy" filmmaker James Gunn, after the first film's helmer David Ayer declined to return. Gunn also penned the script, which Warner seems to like a whole lot. Sources say that Gunn met with Elba on Friday and things went really well. Apparently, the actor was the "first and only choice" for both the studio and Gunn.

The follow-up will feature mostly DC characters that did not appear in the 2016 film, but also returning characters like Deadshot, Harley Quinn and, maybe, Rick Flagg. In a way the film will be a soft reboot, since its predecessor has received a largely negative reception. Although Margot Robbie is starring in her own Harley Quinn spinoff titled "Birds of Prey", she has not been confirmed for the "Suicide Squad" sequel.

Elba can be seen this year as the villain in the upcoming "Fast & Furious" spin-off "Hobbs & Shaw", and has finished work on the adaptation of the Broadway musical "Cats".

"The Suicide Squad" will be released on August 6, 2021.
