The Bodyguard Remake From Taylor Swift Eras Your Director In The Works

A remake of the 1992 romantic thriller "The Bodyguard" is currently in the works at Warner Bros. The original film starred Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston and was a box office hit, grossing $441 million worldwide. It was nominated for two Oscar nominations for Best Original Song. The remake will be directed by "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" director Sam Wrench from a script by "Juror No. 2" writer Jonathan A. Abrams.

No casting has been set. The original was directed by Mick Jackson from a script by Lawrence Kasdan ("Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back", "Raiders of the Lost Ark"), and it starred Costner as a former Secret Service agent, who takes a job as bodyguard to a famous R&B star (Houston) who is being threatened by a dangerous stalker. Its soundtrack became the best-selling of all time, and the best-selling album by a female artist of all time, featuring hits like "I Will Always Love You", "I'm Every Woman", "Queen of the Night" and the Oscar-nominated songs "Run to You" and "I Have Nothing".

Warner Bros is ardently trying to resurrect some of its classic IPs. Other revivals/reboots in the works include a new "Practical Magic" movie reteaming Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, "Gremlins", a "Goonies" sequel, an "Ocean's Eleven" prequel starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, the "Lord of the Rings" spinoff "Gollum" directed by Andy Serkis and an animated "Cat in the Hat" movie.

Naomi Ackie Lands Role Of Whitney Houston in Biopic I WANNA DANCE WITH SOMEBODY
British actress Naomi Ackie ("Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker") is in final negotiations to play iconic artist Whitney Houston in Sony/TriStar's biopic "I Wanna Dance With Somebody".

The film, which is being made with the blessing of the Houston estate, will be directed by Stella Meghie ("The Photograph") from a script by Oscar nominee Anthony McCarten, who also penned the Queen biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody".

Here's what Meghie had to say about the casting:
"We spent the better part of the last year in an exhaustive search for an actress who could embody Whitney Houston. Naomi Ackie impressed us at every stage of the process. I was moved by her ability to capture the stage presence of a global icon while bringing humanity to her interior life.".

Pat Houston will produce the movie on behalf of the Whitney Houston estate, along with music producer Clive Davis. Denis O'Sullivan and Jeff Kalligher are also on board to produce.

Thanks to the backing of Houston's estate and Davis, the movie will use the singer's catalog, including her vocals.

The film is expected to be released on Thanksgiving 2022.

Ackie won a BAFTA for her role as Bonnie in the second season of Netflix's cult series "The End Of The F***Ing World". She recently starred in the fourt installment of Steve McQueen's anthology series "Small Axe". She is also attached to star in the heist musical "The Score" opposite Will Poulter and Johnny Flynn.

I can't say I'm surprised. Hollywood is on a rampage with these remakes. Anything goes. So much so, that even a movie nominated for 7 Razzie Awards gets a remake. What's next ? "Freddy Got Fingered" ? The 1992 box-office hit is being remade by Warner Brothers with a script written by unknowns Nick Palmer and Jeremiah Friedman. The original was about a famous singer (Whitney Houston) and a Secret Service dude (Kevin Costner) who is brought in to protect her from a dangerous stalker. The updated version changes some basic facts. For example Costner's character will now be an Iraq-war veteran. Yes, they want to go for that darker edge and yes, I'm being ironic. How about this for an idea : they could get Miley Cirus to play the singer. And Justin Bieber could play the bodyguard. Isn't that something everybody would want to see ?
