Cameron Diaz to Star in Clea DuVall's TROOP BEVERLY HILLS Sequel

Cameron Diaz to Star in Clea DuVall's TROOP BEVERLY HILLS Sequel
Cameron Diaz has signed on to star in TriStar Pictures' sequel to the 1980s cult comedy "Troop Beverly Hills". The film will be directed by actress turned writer-director Clea DuVall ("The Intervention") from her own script. DuVall previously worked with the studio on the romantic comedy "Happiest Season" starring Kristen Stewart. TriStar is one of the five live-action labels of the Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group.

Plot details are under wraps. The original film was released in 1989 and starred Shelley Long as a Beverly Hills socialite who becomes an unlikely den mother to a local troop of Girl Scouts in order to prove to her husband and herself that she can finish what she starts out to do. The story was based on events in the life of writer-producer Ava Fries, who had producer and story credit. The original was not a box office success and received a negative critical reception, but has since developed a cult following for its feminist message.

Diaz and her business partner Katherine Power will also produce alongside Laurence Mark ("The Greatest Showman", "Dreamgirls").

Diaz made her return to acting with the 2025 Netflix film "Back in Action", in which she starred alongside Jamie Foxx. She can next be seen in Jonah Hill's dark comedy "Outcome", which release on Apple TV on April 10th, and will also reprise her role as Princess Fiona in "Shrek 5", which opens in theaters on December 23rd. She is also set to star in Netflix's action comedy "Bad Day", and is currently filming an untitled romantic comedy for Amazon MGM that also stars Stephen Merchant.
