Peter Serafinowicz Joins HARRY POTTER Series as Peeves the Poltergeist

Peter Serafinowicz Joins HARRY POTTER Series as Peeves the Poltergeist
Peter Serafinowicz ("Parks and Recreation", "Guardians of the Galaxy", "Shaun of the Dead") has joined the cast of HBO's upcoming "Harry Potter" series, and he will play Peeves the Poltergeist, a cheeky ghost known for causing trouble in the Hogwarts halls. The character never made an appearance in the original film series. British comedian Rik Mayall, who died in 2014, filmed scenes as the character, however, they were unfortunately cut due to time constraints.

HBO's "Harry Potter" TV series will have a total of seven seasons, each tackling one novel in J.K. Rowling's epic book series, and is planned to have a more detailed scope than the films. Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton will star as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout is stepping into the role of Ron Weasley. The cast also includes John Lithgow as Hogwarts headmaster Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

JB Perrette, Warner Bros. Discovery's president of global streaming and games had this to say about the show: "The scope of the production, the detail, meticulousness of what they're going through and what they've built takes theatrical to just a whole different level. And so when you think of the love of that franchise and what you can do in a series: can go deeper, can tell more of the story, can tell more of the pieces that you didn't get to capture in a two-hour movie...I really think this is the streaming event of the decade".

"Harry Potter" is set to premiere in December 2026 on HBO and HBO Max. The show is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner. Mark Mylod executive produces and directs multiple episodes. A second season is already in production.
