WANDAVISION Creator Jac Schaeffer to Develop STARGATE Series at Amazon

Wandavision Creator Jac Schaeffer To Develop Stargate Series At Amazon

Amazon MGM Studios is developing a new "Stargate" series with the help of Jac Schaeffer, the creator of the Emmy-nominated Marvel miniseries "WandaVision" and "Agatha All Along". The project falls under Schaeffer's overall deal with Amazon MGM, which was announced earlier this year. This will be Amazon's second attempt at a new "Stargate" show, after previously bringing in Martin Gero ("Blindspot") to work on a version that ultimately did not move forward.

It has been reported that a writers' room is expected to open in the near future. The project will be executive produced by Schaeffer, Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell for Safehouse Pictures.

The "Stargate" franchise started with the 1994 film of the same name directed by Roland Emmerich, which starred James Spader and Kurt Russell. The film grossed a total of $196.5 million worldwide and was followed by a hit sequel series in 1997 titled "Stargate SG-1", which ran for 10 seasons. That show spawned the animated series "Stargate Infinity", the live-action spinoffs "Stargate Atlantis", "Stargate Universe" and "Stargate Origins", and the direct-to-DVD films "Stargate: The Ark of Truth", and "Stargate: Continuum".

Schaeffer's resume also includes the screenplay for the Disney animated featurette "Olaf's Frozen Adventure", and the Razzie-nominated 2019 film "The Hustle" starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson, which was a remake of the classic 1988 comedy "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels".
