BOYHOOD Wins Top Honors at 2015 BAFTA Awards

Well, this was unexpected. While "Birdman" was cleaning up all the Guild awards in the U.S., "Boyhood" created an upset by winning Best Film and Best Director (Richard Linklater) at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards. The film also picked up an award for Supporting Actress (Patricia Arquette). The BAFTAs ignored "Birdman" for the top awards, but did send it home with a much deserved win for Cinematography (Emmanuel Lubezki).

"The Grand Budapest Hotel" was actually the big winner of the evening with a total of 5 awards, including Original Screenplay, Production Design and Original Music. "The Theory of Everything" scored wins for Best British Film and Leading Actor (Eddie Redmayne), and Julianne Moore took home the Leading Actress award for her performance in "Still Alice"

2015 Oscar Nominations Announced

The nominations for the 87th Academy Awards have been announced. The list includes some awards favorites like "Boyhood", "The Imitation Game", "Birdman" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel". The latter two lead the race with 9 nominations each. "Selma" was once again snubbed. While the drama managed to receive a Best Picture nod, it was left out of every other major category. The only other nomination the film received was for Best Original Song.

There was plenty of love, however, for Clint Eastwood's "American Sniper" which received 6 nominations including Best Picture and "The Imitation Game" which scored 8 nods including the major categories (Picture, Screenplay, Actor, Actress, Directing).

"The LEGO Movie" was also left out of the Best Animated Feature category, while "Big Hero 6", "The Boxtrolls" and "How to Train Your Dragon 2" made the cut alongside two surprises, the lesser known films "Song of the Sea" and "The Tale of Princess Kaguya".

The winners of the Academy Awards will be announced live when the ceremony airs on February 22nd (ABC). The show will be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris.

2015 Directors Guild Nominees Announced

The Directors Guild of America has announced its nominations for the 67th Annual DGA Awards. The five directors nominated are:

• Wes Anderson - "The Grand Budapest Hotel"

• Alejandro González Iñárritu - "Birdman"
  
  
• Richard Linklater - "Boyhood"
  
  
• Morton Tyldum - "The Imitation Game"
  
  

As with the other Guild Awards, the DGAs too are solid indicators for the Oscars. Some noticeable snubs here include David Fincher for "Gone Girl" and Ava DuVernay for "Selma". The latter film has been pretty much ignored by the Guilds and was recently snubbed by the BAFTAs, so its Oscar prospects are not looking good. The winners will be announced on February 7, 2015.

2015 Writers Guild Awards Nominations Announced

The nominees for the 2015 Writers Guild of America awards have been announced. The collection of candidates for this year is pretty interesting, even though some of the top movies like "Selma", "Birdman" and "The Theory of Everything" were ineligible. We have some surprises, like "Nightcrawler" and "Guardians of the Galaxy", as well as some expected nominees which include "Boyhood", "Gone Girl", "The Imitation Game" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel". The WGA winners will be announced on February 14th.

2015 Golden Globes: The Complete Winners List

The 72nd Golden Globes winners have been announced and the awards were pretty much split between each of the major contenders. "Boyhood" took home the awards for Best Drama, Best Director (Richard Linklater) and Supporting Actress (Patricia Arquette), while "The Grand Budapest Hotel" won Best Comedy or Musical. "Birdman" scored wins for leading actor Michael Keaton and Best Screenplay. As pretty much expected, Julianne Moore won Best Actress for "Still Alice", Eddie Redmayne nabbed a trophy for "The Theory of Everything" and J.K. Simmons took home the award for Best Supporting Role for his explosive performance in "Whiplash". In the television categories "Fargo" and "The Affair" won top honors.

BAFTA 2015 Nominations Announced

The nominees for the 2015 BAFTAs have been announced and Wes Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel" is in the lead with 11 nominations. Other Best Film contenders are "Birdman", "The Theory of Everything", "Boyhood" and "The Imitation Game". The BAFTA ceremony will be hosted by Stephen Fry and will take place on February 8.

2015 Golden Globe Nominations Announced

The nominations for the 2015 Golden Globes Awards have been announced, and much like earlier today with the Screen Actors Guild nominations, "Birdman" leads the race with a total of 7 nods including Best Motion Picture (Musical/Comedy). "Boyhood" and "The Imitation Game" also scored five nods each. In the television category the most nominations were rounded up by "Fargo" (5 nods), followed by "True Detective" (4 nods). Other nominated series include "Game of Thrones", "The Good Wife", "Downton Abbey", "Orange is the New Black" and "The Affair". The 72nd Golden Globe Awards will once again be hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey on January 11th at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

2015 Screen Actors Guild Nominations Announced

The 2015 Screen Actors Guild nominations have been announced and Alejandro González Iñárritu's "Birdman" is off to a strong start this awards season. The film scored four SAG nominations including Leading Actor (Michael Keaton) and Male Supporting Role (Edward Norton). Close behind, with 3 nominations each, are "Boyhood", "The Imitation Game" and "The Theory of Everything". In the television categories "Modern Family" leads with four nominations and shows like "Boardwalk Empire", "Homeland", "Game of Thrones" and "House of Cards" each received three nominations. The 21st Annual SAG Awards will air on TNT and TBS on Sunday, January 25th at 8pm EST.

BOYHOOD Featurette: Richard Linklater, Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette Talk About Their 12-Year Movie

A featurette has been released for the unique drama "Boyhood". What is unique about the movie is that writer/director Richard Linklater ("Before Midnight") decided to film the story of a young boy (Ellar Coltrane) from the age of 6 to 18 by using the same cast over a period of 12 years, which means that everyone involved in the movie aged in real-time as the story progressed. The film has been called a masterpiece by many critics and its unique nature qualifies it as one of the most important works in the history of cinema. In this featurette, Linklater, Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette discuss how the film was made and how it all started back in 2002.

"Boyhood" opens in theaters on July 11th (limited release).

Trailer & Poster for BOYHOOD Starring Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette

The first trailer and poster for the drama "Boyhood" have been released. Written and directed by Richard Linklater ("Before Midnight"), the film follows the life of a young boy (Ellar Coltrane) from the age of 6 to 18. What is truly unique about the film is that Linklater shot it over a span of 12 years, using the same actors, which undoubtedly gives a different weight to the story. What's more important is that this isn't just gratuitous experimentation, but a real artistic effort by Linklater and his cast. Enthusiastic reviews seem to confirm that Linklater has reached his objectives and has crafted "a narrative drama, that unfolds like documentary truth", and a "moving and masterful evocation of what it means to be a family, and all the hurt and hope that comes with it." The film also stars Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette
