the-imitation-game-new-on-dvd-and-blu-ray

Product Description: During the winter of 1952, British authorities entered the home of mathematician, cryptanalyst and war hero Alan Turing (Benedict Cumberbatch) to investigate a reported burglary. They instead ended up arresting Turing himself on charges of ‘gross indecency’, an accusation that would lead to his devastating conviction for the criminal offense of homosexuality – little did officials know, they were actually incriminating the pioneer of modern-day computing. Famously leading a motley group of scholars, linguists, chess champions and intelligence officers, he was credited with cracking the so-called unbreakable codes of Germany's World War II Enigma machine. An intense and haunting portrayal of a brilliant, complicated man, a genius who under nail-biting pressure helped to shorten the war and, in turn, save thousands of lives.

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu 2015 Oscar Winner

The 87th Academy Awards have ended. Neil Patrick Harris was arguably the worst part of the awards show, mostly because of a batch of bad jokes that made him clearly uncomfortable and somewhat unlikeable as the host. I honestly expected a bit more energy in his routine, but it all felt incredibly flat after a relatively short and dull opening musical moment.

The awards themselves were offered to the usual suspects. "Birdman" picked up 4 Oscars, including Best Picture, Director and Original Screenplay, and "The Grand Budapest Hotel" also took home four awards for the more technical categories like Costumes, Art Direction and Score. Julianne Moore, Eddie Redmayne, Patricia Arquette and J.K. Simmons nabbed Oscars for their amazing performances, while "Selma", "Interstellar", "American Sniper" and "The Imitation Game" each took home one award. In the animated feature category Disney won for a second consecutive year with "Big Hero 6" and Poland's "Ida" won Best Foreign Language Film.

The winners of the 2015 Writers Guild of America awards have been announed. "The Grand Budapest Hotel" won Best Original Screenplay and "The Imitation Game" took home the award for Best Adapted Screenplay. If you're wondering what happened to Guild-favorite "Birdman", the movie was ineligible for a WGA nomination. It is however nominated for the Original Screenplay Oscar. In the television categories, "True Detective" and "Louie" won for Best Drama Series and Best Comedy Series, respectively.

2015 Oscar Nominations

The nominations for the 87th Academy Awards have been announced. The list includes some awards favorites like "Boyhood", "The Imitation Game", "Birdman" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel". The latter two lead the race with 9 nominations each. "Selma" was once again snubbed. While the drama managed to receive a Best Picture nod, it was left out of every other major category. The only other nomination the film received was for Best Original Song.

There was plenty of love, however, for Clint Eastwood's "American Sniper" which received 6 nominations including Best Picture and "The Imitation Game" which scored 8 nods including the major categories (Picture, Screenplay, Actor, Actress, Directing).

"The LEGO Movie" was also left out of the Best Animated Feature category, while "Big Hero 6", "The Boxtrolls" and "How to Train Your Dragon 2" made the cut alongside two surprises, the lesser known films "Song of the Sea" and "The Tale of Princess Kaguya".

The winners of the Academy Awards will be announced live when the ceremony airs on February 22nd (ABC). The show will be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris.

dga-2015-awards-nominees-american-sniper-boyhood-imitation-game

The Directors Guild of America has announced its nominations for the 67th Annual DGA Awards. The five directors nominated are:

  • Wes Anderson - "The Grand Budapest Hotel"

  • Clint Eastwood - "American Sniper"

  • Alejandro González Iñárritu - "Birdman"

  • Richard Linklater - "Boyhood"

  • Morton Tyldum - "The Imitation Game"

As with the other Guild Awards, the DGAs too are solid indicators for the Oscars. Some noticeable snubs here include David Fincher for "Gone Girl" and Ava DuVernay for "Selma". The latter film has been pretty much ignored by the Guilds and was recently snubbed by the BAFTAs, so its Oscar prospects are not looking good. The winners will be announced on February 7, 2015.

birdman-pga-2015

The nominees for the Producers Guild Awards have been announced. The contenders for the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for feature film are "American Sniper", "Birdman", "Foxcatcher", "Gone Girl", "Grand Budapest Hotel", "The Imitation Game", "Nightcrawler", "The Theory of Everything" and "Whiplash". Most films were expected candidates, with possibly just "Nightcrawler" being something of a surprise, but the PGA's top 10 also shut out some other surefire candidates like "Selma", "Into the Woods" or "A Most Violent Year". The PGAs are usually a strong indicator for the Oscars, so whoever wins here will probably go on to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards as well.

In the television category, the PGA nominated some usual suspects like "American Horror Story: Freak Show", "Sherlock", "Game of Thrones", "Breaking Bad", "Modern Family" and "Downton Abbey", but also new additions like "True Detective" and "Fargo".

The 26th annual Producers Guild Awards will be held on January 24th in Los Angeles.
