Weekend Box-Office: Jordan Peele's US Dominates With $70M Debut

"Captain Marvel" was taken down from the top spot as the box-office was shaken up this weekend with the release of Jordan Peele's new horror film "Us". With no other new releases, these two films helped boost the box-office, after a tough start this year.

Weekend Box-Office: CAPTAIN MARVEL Scores Massive $455M Global Debut

The new Disney/Marvel release "Captain Marvel" gave the box-office a much needed boost this weekend, both domestically and internationally. The 21st installment in the MCU dominated the weekend with a massive three-day performance that is now Marvel's seventh largest opening weekend of all time.

Weekend Box-Office: MADEA Fails to Defeat HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 3

Although it made a decent amount of money in its opening weekend and even outperformed expectations, the ninth and thankfully last installment in Tyler Perry's Madea franchise failed to secure the top position at the box-office as DreamWorks Animation's threequel "How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World" managed to maintain its dominance. Meanwhile, the new release "Greta" was a bit of a disaster.

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON: THE HIDDEN WORLD Trailers, Clips, Featurettes, Images and Posters

"How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World" is the third and final installment in the "How to Train Your Dragon" film franchise inspired by Cressida Cowell's book series of the same name. The film is once again written and directed by Dean DeBlois.

The story follows Hiccup (Jay Baruchel), who is now chief and ruler of Berk alongside Astrid (America Ferrera), as he discovers Toothless isn't the only Night Fury, and must seek "The Hidden World", a secret Dragon Utopia before a hired tyrant named Grimmel (F. Murray Abraham) finds it first. The voice cast also includes Cate Blanchett, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, Kit Harington and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

"How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World" opened in theaters on February 22, 2019 and received almost universal acclaim from critics.

Weekend Box-Office: HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 3 Debuts With Franchise Best

The animated threequel "How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World" opened in theaters with a franchise record and ended the box-office drought that has plagued the first two months of 2019. Also, the wrestling biopic "Fighting With my Family" expanded nationwide and performed relatively well.

In Theaters: HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 3, FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY, THE CHANGEOVER and RUN THE RACE

Universal and DreamWorks Animation's threequel "How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World" is now in theaters and looks primed to explode at the box-office. The film has received a very enthusiastic response from both critics and moviegoers and has already brought in $3 million from Thursday night previews, and pundits expect it to finish its opening weekend with around $50 million.

Meanwhile, the well received wrestling biopic "Fighting With My Family" executive produced by Dwayne Johnson that stars Florence Pugh as WWE Superstar Paige, has expanded nationwide.

In limited release it might be worth checking out the supernatural thriller "The Changeover" based on Margaret Mahy's fantasy novel of the same name, and the faith-based sports drama "Run the Race".
