Weekend Box-Office: DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE Wins Labor Day Frame While REAGAN Tops Expectations

Over a relatively quiet holiday frame, "Deadpool & Wolverine" reigned supreme over the Labor Day weekend, while the newly released biopic "Reagan" starring Dennis Quaid performed better than expected. The AI horror thriller "Afraid", however, was one of the weekend's more modest openings.

Weekend Box-Office: THE EQUALIZER 3 Dominates Labor Day Frame

Sony's action thriller sequel "The Equalizer 3" was the Labor Day champion this year, taking down "Gran Turismo", and scoring the second-highest holiday debut. Meanwhile, the summer box-office has crossed the $4 billion milestone for the first time since the pandemic hit.

Weekend Box-Office: HITMAN'S BODYGUARD Threepeats Over Slow Labor Day Weekend

The Labor Day weekend box-office is said to have been the worst in almost twenty years. That being said, most of the films in the Top 10 saw positive increases compared to last week, and somewhat saved an otherwise dull weekend that featured no new wide releases.

DVD & Blu-Ray: LABOR DAY Starring Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin

Product Description: "Labor Day" centers on 13-year-old Henry Wheeler, who struggles to be the man of his house and care for his reclusive mother Adele while confronting all the pangs of adolescence. On a back-to-school shopping trip, Henry and his mother encounter Frank Chambers, a man both intimidating and clearly in need of help, who convinces them to take him into their home and later is revealed to be an escaped convict. The events of this long Labor Day weekend will shape them for the rest of their lives.

Weekend Box-Office Report: THAT AWKWARD MOMENT, LABOR DAY

"Ride Along" managed to stay on top for a third consecutive weekend, grossing $12.3 million over the Super Bowl weekend and rising to a total of $92 million. Second place was taken by Disney's "Frozen", which climbed from No. 4 last week, thanks to the release of a sing-along version of the animated feature in more than 2,000 theaters. The sing-along version grossed $2.2 million on its own which added up to a $9.3 million total for the weekend. "Frozen" has now earned $864 million worldwide.

The new releases "That Awkward Moment" starring Zac Efron, Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan and "Labor Day" starring Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin proved to be unremarkable, with the former bringing in an okay $9 million considering its $8 million budget, and the latter grossing $5.3 million, much worse for its $18 million budget.

In other news, Peter Berg's "Lone Survivor" reached and surpassed the $100 million mark domestically, "American Hustle" became David O. Russell's highest grossing movie with a domestic total currently at $133 million, and "I, Frankenstein" cemented its box-office bomb reputation by losing 59% from its already embarrassing opening weekend.

First Clip and 27 Pictures for LABOR DAY Starring Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin

The first clip and a batch of 27 images have been released for the drama "Labor Day". The film is written and directed by Jason Reitman ("Juno", "Up in the Air") and it is based on Joyce Maynard's novel. The cast features Kate Winsley, Josh Brolin, Gattlin Griffith, J.K. Simmons, Clark Gregg, James Van Der Beek and Tobey Maguire. Winslet was nominated for a Golden Globe this year for her performance in this movie.

"Labor Day" opens in theaters on January 31, 2014.

LABOR DAY (2013) - 2 New Trailers

The first two trailers for the drama "Labor Day" have been released. The film is directed by Jason Reitman ("Juno", "Up in the Air") and it stars Josh Brolin as a fugitive who takes a 13-year-old boy (Gattlin Griffith) and his reclusive mother (Kate Winslet) hostage. As his story is revealed during the long Labor Day weekend, the relationship between the three becomes more complicated. The first trailer presents the plot in a more general manner and features some great use of music, but if you're looking for more plot, the second trailer (from Moviefone) is more detailed, if a bit spoilery.

The film also stars J.K. Simmons, Clark Gregg, James Van Der Beek and Tobey Maguire. "Labor Day" will get a limited release on December 25th and will expand on January 31, 2014.
