Rio 1939 New On Bluray

Product Description: From director John Brahm, the master of suspense behind The Undying Monster, The Lodger, Hangover Square and Singapore, comes a journey into the dark and dangerous corners of Rio, starring screen greats Basil Rathbone (If I Were King) and Victor McLaglen (Murder at the Vanities). Crooked Parisian financier Paul Reynard (Rathbone) is arrested for bank fraud and sentenced to a penal colony off the coast of South America. His wife Irene (Sigrid Gurie, Algiers) and faithful servant Dirk (McLaglen) travel to Rio de Janeiro to arrange for Paul’s escape. But once they’ve landed in the Brazilian capital, Irene falls in love with an American engineer (Robert Cummings, The Last Train from Madrid). After his escape, Paul realizes that he’s lost his wife forever to a better man, and seeks revenge. From a story by Jean Negulesco (Road House), the noir-drenched adventure Rio also stars Leo Carrillo (Four Frightened People).

The movie with the most hype, "Transcendence", failed to make much of an impression on audiences this past weekend. The Johnny Depp sci-fi thriller tanked with $11 million and landed in fourth place in its first three days, surpassed by a still strong "Captain America: The Winter Soldier", "Rio 2", and, surprisingly, the new drama "Heaven is for Real". The latter is based on true-story near-death experience and it stars Greg Kinnear. This is the fourth faith-based film to receive strong support from audiences, following "God's Not Dead", "Son of God" and "Noah". The Marlon Wayans comedy "A Haunted House 2" also disappointed with a $9 million opening weekend performance which ranked the movie fifth.

rio-2-box-office-results

It was a tight race this weekend between Marvel's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and the animated sequel "Rio 2", but the Cap eventually emerged as the champion with $41 million over "Rio 2" which grossed $39 million in the last 3 days. The animated feature pulled off the exact same box-office results domestically as the first film, but international numbers are much more impressive. The micro-budget horror feature "Oculus" opened in third place with $12 million, while the Kevin Costner sports drama "Draft Day" followed behind with $9.7 million.

2011 was a good year for blockbusters, with some that were worse than expected and others that completely surpassed expectations. When it comes down to box-office results, it's all about the usual suspects and it was certainly a great year for sequels, especially those with very long titles, like "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2", "Transformers: Dark of the Moon", "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1", which performed very well (despite harsh reviews in some cases). Here's a look (after the jump) at the domestic and worldwide top 10 box-office hits for 2011 :
