New on DVD and Blu-ray: December 6, 2016

The new DVD and Blu-ray releases this week include the new Matt Damon action sequel "Jason Bourne", Illumination's animated feature "The Secret Life of Pets", the black and white version of "Mad Max: Fury Road" dubbed "Black & Chrome Edition", John Krasinski's feature film directorial debut "The Hollars", the documentaries "Heart of a Dog" and "For the Love of Spock", and many more.

We also have some new series premiering on home video this week: the first seasons of MTV's "The Shannara Chronicles", Disney's "Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures" and Oprah Winfrey's "Greenleaf", and the complete four seasons of "Prison Break", each one released on separate Blu-ray sets.

Weekend Box-Office: STAR TREK BEYOND and LIGHTS OUT Open Strong While ICE AGE 5 Bombs

There were no surprises whatsoever regarding "Star Trek Beyond", which easily dominated the box-office, but "Lights Out" provided this week's big surprise. Meanwhile, "Ice Age: Collision Course" was a complete disappointment.

Weekend Box-Office: SECRET LIFE OF PETS Makes Record-Breaking Debut

Once again, an animated feature dominates the box-office. "The Secret Life of Pets" towered above the competition, while the other new releas, the comedy "Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates", only managed a modest debut. Another big surprise came from Bollywood.

In Theaters: THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS, MIKE AND DAVE NEED WEDDING DATES, CAPTAIN FANTASTIC, CELL

This week in theaters we have two new wide releases, the animated film "The Secret Life of Pets", and the R-rated comedy "Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates". In limited release you should check out the drama "Captain Fantastic" starring Viggo Mortensen. Also starting a limited run in theaters is the Stephen King adaptation "Cell" which, unfortunately, seems to be a complete misfire. More about each movie after the jump.

Universal's new animated feature "The Secret Life of Pets" is now in theaters. The film has received a generally positive reception from critics who have praised the beautiful animation and incredibly talented voice cast, even though the film overall is more of a diversion than a profound experience.

Directed by Chris Renaud ("Despicable Me") and Yarrow Cheney, the film features the voices of Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Jenny Slate, Steve Coogan, Dana Carvey, Bobby Moynihan, Hannibal Buress and Albert Brooks.
