Emmy winner Mark Hamill ("Star Wars") has joined the cast of the third season of Peacock's "Twisted Metal" in a recurring role. Peacock and Sony Pictures Television's show is an adaptation of the popular PlayStation video game franchise of the same name. "Twisted Metal" was renewed for a third season in November. The streamer has revealed that the second season scored 993 million minutes viewed, ranking as its second highest-reaching original returning scripted season.
Hamill will star as Pope Charlie Kane, the leader of the Eastern Sovereignty and estranged father of Sweet Tooth (Joe Seanoa and voiced by Will Arnett). Details regarding the plot of Season 3 will be released at a later date. David Reed ("The Boys", "Supernatural") is taking over as showrunner and executive producer for Season 3 following Michael Jonathan Smith's departure.
Executive producer and star Anthony Mackie said the following in a statement: "For Mark Hamill to come into this world with us is amazing. He's someone I've admired for a long time — a true legend who’s influenced generations of actors. Being able to now call him a castmate is an incredible honor, and we’re excited to see what he brings to the world of Twisted Metal".
The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. Reed executive produces alongside Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick ("Deadpool"), Arnett and Marc Forman for Electric Ave, Jason Spire for Inspire Entertainment, Peter Principato for Artists First, PlayStation Productions' Asad Qizilbash, and Sony Interactive Entertainment's Studio Business CEO Hermen Hulst.
