Product Description: Academy Award (R) nominee Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) stars as Annie, a young, happy foster kid who's also tough enough to make her way on the streets of New York in 2014. Originally left by her parents as a baby with the promise that they'd be back for her someday, it's been a hard knock life ever since with her mean foster mom Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz). But everything's about to change when the hard-nosed tycoon and New York mayoral candidate Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) - advised by his brilliant VP, Grace (Rose Byrne) and his shrewd and scheming campaign advisor, Guy (Bobby Cannavale) - makes a thinly-veiled campaign move and takes her in. Stacks believes he's her guardian angel, but Annie's self-assured nature and bright, sun-will-come-out-tomorrow outlook on life just might mean it's the other way around.

Box-Office: Final Chapter in THE HOBBIT Trilogy Rules Weekend With $56 Million

It's no surprise that Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" dominates the weekend box-office. Even though the competition was a lot tougher than it was for previous installments, the epic final chapter in the Middle-Earth prequel trilogy scored $56 million over the weekend and $90.6 million in the five days since its release. The film also grossed $265 million overseas which is pretty awesome. However, as far as weekends go, "The Battle of the Five Armies" made less money than "An Unexpected Journey" which grossed $84 million in its first weekend, and "The Desolation of Smaug" which opened with $73 million, both within a 3-day timeframe. The final chapter in the trilogy will probably gross less than the previous films, but not by very much. It's still going to make a ton of money.

The sequel "Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb" took second place with a modest $17 million, a slow opening for the $127 million production and the weakest of the series. "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" registered a $54 million debut in 2009 while the first film in the franchise scored a $30 million opening weekend in 2006.

After a pretty rotten week which included North-Korean cyber-attacks, Sony managed a mild success with its "Annie" remake which opened third with $16 million. While these may not be huge numbers, the family film could pick up more business during the holiday week.

Meanwhile, last week's "Exodus: Gods and Kings" took a steep dive, dropping 66% from first place to fourth and only managed $8 million this weekend. Ridley Scott's epic is shaping up to be one of 2014's flops with just $100 million worldwide in 10 days versus a $140 million budget that would require a Biblical miracle to recouperate.

CASTING NEWS: Julianne Moore, Cameron Diaz, William Fichtner

Julianne Moore is in talks to join the last two "Hunger Games" films, "Mockingjay - Part 1" and "Mockingjay - Part 2", which are a two-part adaptation of Suzanne Collins' final novel in the trilogy. Moore will star as District 13 leader Alma Coin, who hopes to use Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) as a symbol for the rebellion and overthrow President Snow (Donald Sutherland). Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and Philip Seymour Hoffman will also return for the last two sequels. The release dates are November 21, 2014 for Part 1 and November 20, 2015 for Part 2.

Last week it was reported that Sandra Bullock was in talks to star in the musical remake "Annie" produced by Will Smith and Jay-Z. Today it was announced that Bullock passed on the project and Cameron Diaz has signed a deal to star as the tyrannical orphanage owner Miss Hannigan. The musical will star Oscar nominee Quvenzhane Wallis as Annie and Jamie Foxx as Benjamin Stacks, the modern version of the original musical's Daddy Warbucks. "Annie" is set to open on December 25, 2014.

You probably already know that William Fichtner has been cast to star in the Michael Bay produced reboot "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", formerly titled "Ninja Turtles", but his role was never disclosed. This week, Fichtner finally revealed that he will be playing the iconic Turtles villain Shredder:

"“I play Shredder. It is cool. It’s one of those things that came along where I thought, ‘Really? Let me think about this for a minute.’ [Laughs] Then I was like, ‘Yeah, OK, this sounds like a journey.’ I’m very glad that it worked out, I’m really glad that I’m doing it."

The turtles are played by Alan Ritchson, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard and Pete Ploszek. The film also stars Megan Fox as reporter April O'Neil, Danny Woodburn as Splinter, Will Arnett and Whoopi Goldberg. "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" opens on June 6, 2014.

Quvenzhané Wallis to Star in ANNIE Remake

The youngest ever Oscar nominee for Best Leading Actress Quvenzhané Wallis ("Beasts of the Southern Wild") is set to star in a remake of "Annie", a 1977 Broadway musical that was previously adapted for the big screen in a 1982 film that earned 2 Oscar nominations (Art Direction and Music) and 5 Razzie noms. The remake is directed by Will Gluck ("Easy A") and produced by Will Smith, James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jay Brown and Tyran "Ty Ty" Smith. Jay-Z will be handling the music, as well as co-producing. Hannah Minghella of Columbia Pictures has declared the following:

"With the recent Academy Award nomination and critical acclaim, Quvenzhané Wallis is a true star and we believe her portrayal as Annie will make her a true worldwide star. She is an extraordinary young talent with an amazing range, not only as an actress but as a singer and dancer, and we can't wait for audiences to further discover her.".

Wallis has replaced Willow Smith, Will Smith's daughter, in the lead role. The movie, set for release during the holiday season in 2014, tells the story of young girl who runs away from an orphanage run by an evil owner and begins a search for her parents. The musical includes the popular songs "Tomorrow" and "It's the Hard-Knock Life". Quvenzhané Wallis will next star in director Steve McQueen's "Twelve Years a Slave", alongside Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender.
