The cast members previously announced for the sequel include Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Dennis Haysbert (replacing Michael Clarke Duncan) and Jamie Chung. "Sin City 2" opens on October 14, 2013.

The Lance Armstrong doping scandal will be at the center of a new film produced by J.J. Abrams ("Super 8", "Star Trek"). Matt Damon and Jake Gyllenhaal were both previously in talks for the lead role. The film will be based on the upcoming book "Cycles of Lies: The Fall of Lance Armstrong" by Juliet Macur.

Director Brian De Palma and Al Pacino will re-team for the first time since "Scarface" to bring the story of Penn State footbal coach Joe Paterno to the big screen. Paterno's shiny sports legacy was overshadowed by the scandal which involved the fact that he had covered up defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky's acts of child molestation. The film will be based on the bestselling book "Paterno" by Joe Posnanski.

Ubisoft has hired acclaimed playwright Michael Lesslie to write the script for the "Assassin's Creed" adaptation. The project is advancing at a serious pace now, with Michael Fassbender attached to star as the protagonist.

Director Martin Scorsese's mafia film "The Irishman", based on Charles Brandt's book "I Heard You Paint Houses", is moving forward. The film follows the story of mob hitman Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran, who supposedly murdered Jimmy Hoffa. Among the actors attached to star are Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Al Pacino. Steven Zaillian ("Schindler's List", "American Gangster") has developed a script for the adaptation, but the film isn't likely to start filming before 2014.

Entertainment Weekly has released two official images from the new remake/re-adaptation of Stephen King's "Carrie". The book was previously adapted in the classic 1976 movie directed by Brian De Palma. The remake is directed by Kimberly Peirce ("Boys Don't Cry") and stars Chloe Moretz ("Let Me In", "Hugo") as the titular character and Julianne Moore ("The Hours", "Far from Heaven") as Carrie's mother. The new movie is said to be more faithful to King's novel and will also focus more on the relationship between Carrie and her mother. Here is what Julianne Moore told Entertainment Weekly about her role :
"This woman has clearly had a psychotic break, perhaps several. But what’s sad about it for me is that she’s clearly sick and here’s this poor child in the thrall of this person who is seriously ill. And on top of that, they have this mother-daughter relationship. So we want to make that relationship as meaningful as possible, even though it is horrible and destructive."
The screenplay was written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa ("Big Love", "Glee"). "Carrie" is scheduled for release on March 15, 2013.
