New York New York 1977 New On 4k Ultra Hd

Product Description: Directed by Martin Scorsese, New York, New York is a bold and stylized musical drama set in the euphoric aftermath of World War II, blending classic Hollywood spectacle with modern emotional realism. The film follows the volatile relationship between Jimmy Doyle, a fiercely independent jazz saxophonist played by Robert De Niro, and Francine Evans, an ambitious and immensely talented singer portrayed by Liza Minnelli.

Against the vibrant, meticulously recreated backdrop of 1940s New York, the two artists rise through the competitive world of show business, navigating the intoxicating highs of success and the painful strains of personal ambition. Their romance is marked by intense chemistry as well as deep conflict, with clashing personalities and creative differences threatening to unravel both their relationship and their careers.

Scorsese's approach pays homage to the grand tradition of MGM musicals while subverting expectations through a more grounded and psychologically complex narrative. Lavish musical sequences are juxtaposed with raw, improvisational performances, resulting in a film that is both a love letter to classic cinema and a meditation on the cost of artistic pursuit. The iconic title song, later popularized by Frank Sinatra, remains one of the most enduring musical standards associated with the film.

This collector's edition presents the expanded cut of New York, New York newly restored from a 16-bit 4K scan of the original camera negative, showcased in 2160p Ultra HD with HDR in its original 1.66:1 aspect ratio. The release features both DTS-HD 5.1 surround and LPCM 2.0 stereo audio options, along with optional English subtitles.

The extensive bonus material includes an introduction by Martin Scorsese and a full-length audio commentary with Scorsese and critic Carrie Rickey. The accompanying Blu-ray disc offers the international version of the film, along with in-depth documentaries such as The New York, New York Stories (Parts One and Two), a featurette focusing on Liza Minnelli's performance, alternate takes and deleted scenes, and a cinematography-focused commentary by László Kovács. Additional materials include a photo gallery, theatrical teaser and trailer, and reversible artwork, making this a definitive edition of one of Scorsese's most ambitious and visually distinctive works.

Martin Scorseses World Cinema Project No 5 New On Bluray Criterion

Product Description: Established by Martin Scorsese in 2007, The Film Foundation’s World Cinema Project has maintained a fierce commitment to preserving and presenting masterpieces from around the globe, with a growing roster of more than sixty restorations of works by essential filmmakers. This collector’s set gathers four groundbreaking and innovative films, ranging from the epic to the intimate, from Algeria (Chronicle of the Years of Fire), Burkina Faso (Yam daabo), India (Kummatty), and Kazakhstan (The Fall of Otrar). Each title is a significant contribution to the art form and a window onto a cinematic tradition that international audiences previously had limited opportunities to experience.

CHRONICLE OF THE YEARS OF FIRE

Burning with passion, poetry, and a nation’s fervent spirit of resistance, Mohammed Lakhdar-Hamina’s stirring revolutionary epic vividly dramatizes the pivotal decades leading up to Algeria’s War of Independence through the harrowing saga of Ahmed (Yorgo Voyagis), a proud farmer seeking a dignified life, whose experience of brutal oppression and systemic injustice leads him, like so many others, to take a stand against the seemingly indomitable might of French colonialism. Winner of the Palme d’Or at the 1975 Cannes Film Festival, this awe-inspiring landmark of Arab cinema is an at once personal and expansive vision of a country awakening from despair to build an unbreakable movement of liberation

YAM DAABO

A family’s quest for self-determination mirrors a nation’s struggle in the sensitively observed feature debut by titan of Burkinabe cinema Idrissa Ouédraogo, who cast an ennobling gaze on ordinary Africans navigating the upheavals of the postcolonial era. Made amid revolutionary leader Thomas Sankara’s push to create a self-reliant Burkina Faso, Yam daabo follows an impoverished family as they leave behind a life in the city reliant on Western aid to start anew in the more verdant countryside, quietly capturing the rhythms of everyday life as well as its devastating tragedies and intimate joys. Featuring music by the legendary Francis Bebey, Yam daabo imbues an elemental human story with profound political weight.

KUMMATTY

Beautifully photographed amid the lush pastoral landscapes of southern India’s Kerala region, this enchanting child’s-eye fable conjures a folkloric world in which the magical exists side by side with the everyday. When Kummatty, a kind of shamanic bogeyman, arrives in a small village, he captivates the children with his music and colorful masks—until he casts a spell that has unexpected consequences for one boy. Bursting with exuberant songs and children’s chants, this fantasy from G. Aravindan, a pioneer of India’s art-house “parallel cinema” movement, is a treasure of imagination and entrancing visual lyricism.

THE FALL OF OTRAR

Kazakh New Wave iconoclast Ardak Amirkulov’s hypnotic thirteenth-century epic is a feverish vision of one of history’s most decisive battles—Genghis Khan’s siege of the now-lost city of Otrar—engraved in images of stunning, hallucinatory power. When his warnings about an imminent invasion are taken for insolence, a former Mongol scout (Dokhdurbek Kydyraliyev) must escape imprisonment to stop an escalating diplomatic crisis and avert a clash of civilizations. With a panoramic scope that encompasses intimate palace intrigue and the merciless sweep of battlefield carnage, The Fall of Otrar is a monumental imagining of seismic historical upheaval—and a terrifying, electrifying feast for the senses.

Leonardo Dicaprio Dwayne Johnson Emily Blunt Martin Scorsese New Film

Leonardo DiCaprio, Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt are attached to star in an upcoming crime film directed by Martin Scorsese. Based on an original idea by Johnson and Blunt, the film is currently being shopped to studios and streamers.

The project has been described as a Hawaii-set combination of "The Departed" and "Goodfellas", and will be written by British-American journalist, author, and filmmaker Nick Bilton, who helmed the 2021 HBO documentary "Fake Famous".

Based on an untold true story, the film focuses on a turbulent time on the island paradise when an aspiring mob boss battled rival crime factions to wrest control of the underworld of the Hawaiian islands. In 1960s and 70s Hawaii, this formidable and charismatic mob boss rises to build the islands' most powerful criminal empire, waging a brutal war against mainland corporations and rival syndicates while fighting to preserve his ancestral land.

Scorsese, Johnson, Blunt, DiCaprio, Bilton, Dany Garcia, Lisa Frechette and Rick Yorn will produce. Johnson and Blunt, who previously worked together on "Jungle Cruise", brought the project to Scorsese and DiCaprio, and once they expressed interest, they all went to Bilton to ask him about writing.

Johnson will reteam with Blunt on the Benny Safdi-directed "Smashing Machine", which will be released later this year. Meanwhile, DiCaprio and Scorsese are also working together on an adaptation of "The Devil in the White City".

Leonardo Dicaprio Martin Scorsese Devil In White City

Oscar-winner Leonardo DiCaprio is in talks to star in the long-awaited "The Devil in the White City". The film is an adaptation of Erik Larson's 2004 bestselling nonfiction book "White City: Murder, Magic and Madness at the Fair That Changed America", and will be produced and directed by Martin Scorsese. It has been reported that there is currently no script for the film.

The story follows Dr. HH Holmes, a cunning serial killer believed to have murdered anywhere from 27 to 200 people at a time when the city of Chicago was enthralled with hosting the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893. The book plays off the contrasts between the hopeful expectations and wonders presented at the exposition and the dark deeds of Holmes, who maneuvered in its shadows and built a carefully-concealed house of horrors.

The project has been in development for a long time. DiCaprio first nabbed the rights to the book in 2010, and at one point in time was even intended as a Hulu series. DiCaprio and Scorsese would also produce along with Stacey Sher, Rick Yorn and DiCaprio’s Appian Way partner Jennifer Davisson.

Made In England The Films Of Powell And Pressburger New On Bluray

Product Description: Martin Scorsese first encountered the films of Powell and Pressburger when he was a child, sitting in front of the family TV. When their famous logo came up on screen, Scorsese says, “You knew you were in for fantasy, wonder, magic - real film magic.” With Made in England he tells the story of his lifelong love-affair with their movies, including The Life and Death Of Colonel Blimp, Black Narcissus, The Red Shoes and The Tales of Hoffmann. “Certain films you simply run all the time and you live with them.” Scorsese says. “As you grow older they grow deeper. I’m not sure how it happens, but it does. For me, that body of work is a wondrous presence, a constant source of energy, and a reminder of what life and art are all about.” Drawing on a rich array of archive material, Scorsese explores in full the collaboration between the Englishman Powell and the Hungarian Pressburger - two romantics and idealists, who thrived in the face of adversity during World War II but were eventually brought low by the film industry of the 1950’s. Scorsese celebrates their ability to create “subversive commercial movies” and describes how deeply their films have influenced his own work.
