Weekend Box-Office: GOOSEBUMPS Tops the Charts While CRIMSON PEAK Flops

Although the weekend had four new wide releases, neither managed to impress much. The leader of the pack turned out to be the children's horror film "Goosebumps" while "Bridge of Spies" and "Crimson Peak" underperformed.

Four new wide releases are now in theaters. Two of them, the "R.L. Stine book series adaptation "Goosebumps" and Guillermo del Toro's gothic horror "Crimson Peak" are a solid warm-up for the upcoming Halloween, but if you prefer something a little less otherworldly, there's also Steven Spielberg's highly acclaimed Cold War drama "Bridge of Spies" and the inspirational Christian sports drama "Woodlawn". CRIMSON PEAK - 6 Clips and 5 Posters

Today we have six clips and five new posters for Guillermo del Toro's "Crimson Peak". The film opens today in theaters and while the reception hasn't been overwhelmingly positive, there is enough critical acclaim for this movie to guarantee that del Toro's fans won't be disappointed.

The film stars Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston, Charlie Hunnam, Doug Jones, Burn Gorman, Leslie Hope and Jim Beaver.

4 New CRIMSON PEAK Character Posters

Four new character posters have been released for Guillermo del Toro's gothic horror "Crimson Peak". The posters feature the film's main characters played by Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Hunnam. The art looks great and the color palette is very gothic appropriate. Probably some of the best character posters I've seen this year. The film also stars Doug Jones, Burn Gorman, Leslie Hope and Jim Beaver.

"Crimson Peak" opens in theaters on October 16th.

CRIMSON PEAK - New Trailers and Motion Poster

Today we have two new trailers and a motion poster for Guillermo del Toro's "Crimson Peak". Mia Wasikowska stars as an aspiring author who is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider, in the aftermath of a family tragedy. The film has received the Stephen King stamp of approval. The author is quoted in the first trailer as saying that the film is "Gorgeous and Terrifying". The international trailer, however, offers a lot more details regarding the plot. The film also stars Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston, Charlie Hunnam, Doug Jones and Jim Beaver co-star.

"Crimson Peak" opens in theaters on October 16th.

CRIMSON PEAK Trailer and Poster: New Gothic Horror from Guillermo del Toro

The first trailer and poster for "Crimson Peak" have been released by Universal and Legendary Pictures. The film is co-written and directed by Guillermo del Toro ("Pan's Labyrinth") and it stars Mia Wasikowska as an aspiring author who is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider, in the aftermath of a family tragedy. And this whole psychological drama unfolds within a house that "breathes, bleeds and remembers". Yup, sounds like the perfect del Toro movie. Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston, Charlie Hunnam, Doug Jones and Jim Beaver co-star.

"Crimson Peak" opens in theaters, including IMAX, on October 16th.

• The first image from Angelina Jolie's upcoming directorial project "Unbroken", a true story WWII film based on the non-fiction book written by Lauren Hillenbrand. The image shows Jolie and the story's real life hero Louis Zamperini. The film will star Jack O’Connell as Zamperini, Garrett Hedlund, Domhnall Gleeson and Alex Russell. The script has recently been rewritten by Joel and Ethan Coen and the film will be released on Christmas Day, 2014.

CASTING NEWS: Jennifer Lopez, Naomi Watts, Emma Watson, Jared Harris, Dane DeHaan, Tom Hiddleston

Jennifer Lopez will star in the drama "The Boy Next Door" as a "newly-separated mother who begins an affair with a new teenage neighbor who befriends her son. Trouble ensues, however, when she tries to abruptly end the relationship." Rob Cohen ("The Fast and the Furious") is in talks to direct the small-budget film. Jason Blum ("The Purge", "The Reader", "Insidious") will produce the film and Barbara Curry has written the script. Production is set to begin this fall.

Naomi Watts is in talks to star in the thriller "Holland, Michigan". The film is the directorial debut of Oscar-winning documentarian Errol Morris. The story, which has been described as Fargo-esque, focuses on "a woman who suspects her husband is cheating. She begins an affair of her own, eventually discovering that her husband is a serial killer." Naomi Watts can also be seen in the upcoming Princess Diana biopic "Diana" and "Vincent De Van Nuys" with Bill Murray.

Emma Watson ("The Perks of Being a Wallflower") has joined the cast of "Your Voice in My Head", an adaptation of Emma Forrest's memoir and the story of "a young bipolar English woman living in New York and the heroic, selfless psychiatrist who saves her life while fighting for his own". Watson was first signed on to star in the project by director David Yates ("Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", but when the director dropped out, the young actress was replaced by Emily Blunt. An official announcement by the studio has confirmed that Emma Watson has been brought back for the lead role. "Your Voice in My Head" is directed by Francesca Gregorini ("Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes"). Production will begin on November 4th.

Jared Harris ("Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows") will star in the "Poltergeist" remake directed by Gil Kenan ("Monster House"). Harris will star as "Carrigan, a larger than life TV personality who left the world of academia behind to become the star host of basic cable TV show Haunted House Cleaners.". Rosemarie DeWitt ("United States of Tara") was cast in a lead role and Sam Rockwell is rumored for a supporting role. The remake is produced by Sam Raimi ("Evil Dead") and penned by David Lindsay-Abaire ("Oz the Great and Powerful"). The film will be released in 2014.

Dane DeHaan ("Chronicle") and Robert Pattinson ("The Twilight Saga") will star as James Dean and photographer Dennis Stock, respectively, in the drama "Life". The film is written and directed by Luke Davies ("Candy") and will focus on the friendship between Dean and Stock that ensued "when the straight-laced Stock embarked on a road trip with Dean in 1955 for a Life magazine commission." Production is set to begin in Canada on February 2014.

Tom Hiddleston ("The Avengers") has replaced Benedict Cumberbatch in Guillermo del Toro's haunted house horror "Crimson Peak". The director has previously declared that his film is a "classical gothic romance ghost story" and a "very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story." "Crimson Peak" also stars Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska and Charlie Hunnam. Production is expected to begin in January 2014.
