Weekend Box-Office: Melissa McCarthy's SPY Tops Charts

The Paul Feig - Melissa McCarthy team has scored another big hit with the action comedy "Spy" which secured a top spot opening while fellow wide releases "Insidious: Chapter 3" and "Entourage" fought hard but fell short.

In Theaters: INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3, SPY, ENTOURAGE, LOVE & MERCY

You know it's summer when you have three new major wide releases fighting over the top spot at the box-office. Admittedly, no tentpole pictures are present, but we have some big names here, nevertheless. First we have the action comedy "Spy" starring Melissa McCarthy which is currently the source of some hype-inducing reviews. Then we have the "Entourage" movie that fans of the HBO series have been eagerly awaiting. This one however didn't do so well with the critics. And last, but not least, we have the horror prequel "Insidious: Chapter 3" which is apparently an improvement over the second film in the franchise. Among the limited releases, the Brian Wilson biopic "Love & Mercy" comes highly recommended. More about each movie after the jump.

New INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 Clips and Featurette

"Insidious: Chapter 3" opens today in theaters, so here are 3 new clips and a making of featurette. Franchise writer Leigh Whannell ("Saw") makes his directorial debut with this new installment which is actually a prequel to James Wan's "Insidious" films and it focuses on psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye). The film has picked up some decent reviews, and even though the general reception is mixed, it's much better than that of the second chapter. Stefanie Scott, Dermot Mulroney, Angus Sampson and Leigh Whannell co-star.

The new installment is no longer directed by James Wan, who moved on to the "Fast and Furious" franchise. Screenwriter Leigh Whannell makes his directorial debut with this prequel which is set before the haunting of the Lambert family. The focus this time is on psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) who agrees to user her abilities to help a teenage girl (Stefanie Scott) who has been targeted by a malevolent supernatural entity. The cast also features Dermot Mulroney, Angus Sampson and Leigh Whannell.
