Disney has announced that they have found the four actors who will lead Marvel Studios' upcoming "The Fantastic Four" movie. And they are: Pedro Pascal ("The Last of Us") as Reed Richards (aka Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby ("Napoleon", "The Crown") as Sue Storm (aka the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn ("Stranger Things") as Johnny Storm (aka the Human Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach ("The Bear") as Ben Grimm (aka the Thing).

"The Fantastic Four" will be directed by Matt Shakman ("WandaVision") from a script by Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer.

The studio has also set a new release date for the film, which will be July 25, 2025, a date formerly reserved for "Thunderbolts", which will now be released on May 2, 2025. Other Marvel movies set for release in 2025 are "Captain America: Brave New World" and "Blade". In 2024 the only MCU movie queued up for release is "Deadpool & Wolverine".

The movie rights previously belonged to 20th Century Fox, which produced three films: "Fantastic Four (2005) and "Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007) starring Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis and Chris Evans, and the failed 2015 reboot that starred Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Michael B. Jordan. In 2019 Disney acquired 21st Century Fox.

Pedro Pascal Picture

Marvel is working hard to bring the popular superhero team, the Fantastic Four to the big screen as part of their Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it may have already found one of its main leads.

Emmy-nominated actor Pedro Pascal is currently in talks to star as Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic in the upcoming "Fantastic Four" movie. Pascal is known for his roles in "Game of Thrones", "The Mandalorian" and "The Last of Us".

The film will be directed by "WandaVision" helmer Matt Shakman, who is replacing "Spider-Man" director Jon Watts, who exited the film. The release date is set for May 2, 2025.

The studio is looking to begin filming early next year, and the project is already in pre-production at Pinewood Studios in England. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will produce.

razzies-awards-2016-fifty-shades-of-grey-fantastic-four

Before the Oscars are awarded tonight, it's time for the other infamous awards institution to hand out its undesired trophies. We're talking about the dreaded Razzie Awards. The winners of the 2016 Razzies were announced and the big winner was "Fifty Shades of Grey" with five awards including Worst Picture which the S&M romance had to share with the comic book fiasco "Fantastic Four". The latter also took home Worst Remake and Director for Josh Trank. The Razzies also handed out the newly instituted Razzie Redeemer Award to this year's Oscar nominee Sylvester Stallone for his excellent work in "Creed".

2016-razzies-awards-nominations

The nominations for the 2016 Golden Raspberry (Razzie) Awards have been announced. As usual, there are some good picks and some pretty weird ones. "Fifty Shades of Grey", "Pixels", "Jupiter Ascending" and "Paul Blart Mall Cop 2" dominate with six nominations each.

It's not all negativity, however, as the Razzies have included a 10th category last year, The Razzie Redeemer Award, which acknowledges past offenders who have redeemed themselves with some impressive work in the past year. The Redeemer winner is decided by a public vote of users from the Rotten Tomatoes website.

The 36th annual Razzie Awards winners will be announced on February 27th.

Four new wide releases are now in theaters. The first, "Fantastic Four" is a comic book adaptation that has turned out to be very controversial and a huge disappointment. Next, we have "The Gift", a thriller written, directed by and starring Joel Edgerton that has received a lot of awesome reviews. For the whole family there's the animated feature "Shaun the Sheep" which has also rounded up some excellent scores from critics. And, last but not least, Meryl Streep's latest film, "Ricki and the Flash", which despite mixed reviews could lead the actress to yet another Oscar nomination. More about each movie after the jump.

Fantastic Four Movie Clip and Featurettes

A new clip and ten featurettes for the "Fantastic Four" reboot have been released. The film opens today in theaters, but not without a great deal of grief. It seems that the comic book adaptation directed by Josh Trank ("Chronicle") and starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell is an incredibly bad attempt at rebooting the franchise, and an overall dull movie.

The movie's score on Rottentomatoes.com is a "fantastic" 9% with 11 positive and 103 negative reviews, making it one of the frontrunners for next year's Razzies. Trank has tweeted today that his original version of the film would have gotten much better reviews (below), hinting that this could be another case of a director getting removed from his own movie by the studio, as was the case with David Fincher and "Alien 3". Either way, the harm has been done, and fans will probably end up severely disappointed.

Toby Kebbell, Reg E. Cathey, Chet Hanks and Tim Blake Nelson also star.

Fantastic Four (2015) Teaser Trailer, Poster and Images

We finally have the first trailer, poster and images for 20th Century Fox's "Fantastic Four" reboot. Directed by "Chronicle" writer Josh Trank, the film is a re-imagining of Marvel's comic book series and it stars Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell as four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form and endows them with special abilities that will allow them to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy (Toby Kebbell).

This is just a teaser trailer, so there isn't really that much of the plot in there, but as far as visuals go it offers plenty to look at. I like the dark, ominous atmosphere, and the filmmakers have invoked David Cronenberg influences in the making of this reboot. Also, Yahoo shared a version of the trailer with commentary by Trank and writer Simon Kinberg which you can watch after the jump.

"Fantastic Four" opens in theaters on August 7th.

fantastic four reboot
Among all the big screen comic book adaptations we've seen released in theaters, 2005's "Fantastic Four" and its 2007 sequel "Rise of the Silver Surfer" definitely rank among the worst. Considering this, Fox has big plans for a reboot. To this end, they have brought in director Josh Trank, whose debut feature "Chronicle" was one of this year's sleeper hits, and writer Jeremy Slater and assigned them the task of bringing forth a much better movie for all you Fantastic Four fans out there. Stay tuned for more details.

wolverine hugh jackman
The cast for the Wolverine reboot has been officially announced. "The Wolverine", directed by James Mangold ("Identity", "Walk the Line") will star Hiroyuki Sanada ("The Last Samurai"), Hal Yamanouchi ("The Way Back"), Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and Will Yun Lee ("Die Another Day"). The latter will star as the villain, Harada, also known as The Silver Samurai. Also, Jessica Biel has been offered the role of Viper, but nothing official has been announced, yet. Hugh Jackman will reprise the role of Wolverine. The movie will take place in Japan and will follow the comic book arc from Chris Claremont and Frank Miller.

independence day movie poster
With all these reboots it's almost hard to believe there are still genuine sequels out there these days. But, here's one franchise that won't go the reboot way. Dean Devlin and Ronald Emmerich have announced that they are actively working on the sequel to their 1996 blockbuster hit "Independence Day". According to previous intel, Fox was actually planning to make two sequels which would be shot back-to-back "Lord of the Rings"-style. Here's what Devlin and Emmerich had to say about the sequel :
"I can tell you that Roland and I have been working together for the first time in 11 years and we’re every excited about the idea of doing it. Whether or not we can make this happen, if we can get all the pieces to come together, that’s gonna be challenging. But creatively, for the very first time since we did the original, I feel we have a worthy concept, a worthy path to go.

We resisted doing the sequel for years because we still wanted to honor the first one. The first one gave us all careers, and we really love that movie and loved the experience. We didn’t want to make a movie because it was financially a good idea, we only wanted to do it when we had an idea and a concept that creatively felt like it honored the first one — that it felt like an organic sequel as opposed to ‘let’s just go make some more money. "

world war z on set pictureThe production of "World War Z" is still dealing with difficulties. As previously reported, director Marc Forster received a lot of criticism for not being able to control the project which spun out of control because of delays and budget issues. It was also reported that screenwriter Damon Lindelof ("Prometheus") was brought in to do some late rewrites. Now, the rewrite problem seems to have worsened. The latest news state that Lindelof was indeed called in to rewrite the ending of the movie, but due to a very crowded schedule had to drop his work on the script before finishing the rewrites. Drew Goddard ("Cloverfield", "The Cabin in the Woods " was hired as a replacement to fix the third act. As soon as the screenplay is done, Forster can begin the reshoots and hopefuly the movie can meet its June 21, 2013 release date.
