"The LEGO Ninjago Movie" is a new installment in the LEGO Movie franchise, and the first based on an original Lego property, the Lego Ninjago toy line.
The film is directed by
Charlie Bean, Paul Fisher and
Bob Logan and it tells the story of young Master Builder Lloyd, aka the Green Ninja (
Dave Franco), who is being shunned by everyone for being the son of the evil Lord Garmadon (
Justin Theroux), but he is also part of a secret ninja warriors force led by Master Wu (
Jackie Chan). An epic father-son showdown will ensue that will forever change of the world of Ninjago.
The voice cast also features
Olivia Munn, Michael Pena, Kumail Nanjiani, Abbi Jacobson, Zach Woods, Fred Armisen, Randall Park, Retta, Chris Hardwick and
Michael Strahan.
"The LEGO Ninjago Movie" opened in theaters on September 22nd, 2017 to a lackluster reception from both critics and moviegoers. The film's mixed reviews slammed it for being cynical toy advertisement that lacks an entertaining story, and warned that the franchise is showing signs of exhaustion. The film opened with a modest $20 million and has grossed $48 million in the 22 days since its release, while overseas it only managed to gross an unimpressive $38.5 million.
