Mikey Madison Jeremy Strong Jeremy Allen White The Social Reckoning

The sequel to Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin's acclaimed film "The Social Network" is gearing up for production and Sony has made an official announcement offering several details about the follow-up. The sequel will be titled "The Social Reckoning", and it will be released in theters on October 9, 2026. Filming is expected to begin next month.

The cast will include Oscar winner Mikey Madison ("Anora", "Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood"), Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner Jeremy Allen White ("The Bear", "Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere"), Emmy and Grammy nominee Bill Burr ("Old Dads", "The King of Staten Island") and Oscar nominee Jeremy Strong ("The Apprentice", "Succession"). Strong is confirmed to play Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

Sorkin writes and directs "The Social Reckoning", and also produces alongside Todd Black, Peter Rice and Stuart Besser.

The sequel has been described as a companion piece to "The Social Network" that will focus on events that take place nearly two decades after the boy-genius programmer and a troupe of tech pioneers invented what would go on to become the world's largest social media platform. "The Social Reckoning" tells the true story of how Frances Haugen (Madison), a young Facebook engineer, enlists the help of Jeff Horwitz (White), a Wall Street Journal reporter, to go on a dangerous journey that ends up blowing the whistle on the social network's most guarded secrets.

Horwitz's reporting, a series of articles known as "The Facebook Files", was published in 2021 and exposed Facebook for its harmful effects on teens and its knowing proliferation of misinformation, which contributed to acts of political violence.

"The Social Network" was released in theaters in October 2010, grossing $226 million worldwide and receiving eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. It won for Sorkin's Adapted Screenplay (loosely based on Ben Mezrich's book "The Accidental Billionaires"), Film Editing and Original Score (Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross).

Aaron Sorkin To Write And Direct Social Network Part 2

"The Social Network" isn't on my list of movies I expected to get a sequel. Yet, here we are. Aaron Sorkin has been set to direct and write a sequel tentatively titled "The Social Network Part II" for Sony Pictures. Furthermore, the film is said to not be a straight sequel, but rather a follow-up to the original movie. It's still in very early pre-production, but it seems that Sorkin is already looking for his cast.

The 2010 biopic was directed by David Fincher from a script by Sorkin based on the 2009 book "The Accidental Billionaires" by Ben Mezrich, and it chronicled the origins of Facebook and its creator Mark Zuckerberg. The cast featured Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, Justin Timberlake, Armie Hammer and Max Minghella. It was a critical and commercial success, grossing $224 million worldwide against a $40 million budget. It went on to receive eight Oscar nominations, winning for Best Adapted Screenplay, Original Score and Editing.

In the sequel, Sorkin will explore the story behind the Wall Street Journal's "The Facebook Files" by Jeff Horowitz, an explosive series of articles published in October 2021 that exposed the inner workings of — and multiple harms caused by — the world's largest social network. The new film project is in development with Todd Black, Peter Rice, Sorkin and Stuart Besser producing.

Throughout the years, Sorkin has expressed his interest in doing a follow-up, but couldn't find the right angle. Following the events of January 6, 2021, when the U.S. Capitol was attacked, Sorkin found new inspiration saying in an interview last year that he believed Facebook played a part. According to sources, the new film is not a "January 6" movie and will focus not just on the 2020 election but also Facebook's effect on teens, preteens, violence and countries outside the U.S.

Sorkin's previous directing credits include "Molly's Game", "The Trial of the Chicago 7" and "Being the Ricardos".

Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem are set to play one of television's most iconic television duos Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz in Aaron Sorkin's upcoming biopic "Being the Ricardos".

The film will focus on a single production week (Monday table read through Friday audience filming) of Ball and Arnaz's TV show "I Love Lucy", when the two are faced with situations that could end both their careers and their marriage.

Sorkin also penned the script. The film is being developed by Amazon Studios and Escape Artist. Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch will produce. Jenna Block, David Bloomfield of Escape Artists, Stuart Besser, Lucie Arnaz, Desi Arnaz, Jr and Lauren Lohman will executive produce.

A production start date has not been set, yet, due to the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down most projects filming in the U.S.

Kidman can next be seen in the Hulu series "Nine Perfect Strangers" and she recently wrapped production on Robert Eggers' Vikings movie "The Northman". Bardem is currently filming Disney's live-action "Little Mermaid", in which he plays King Triton.

That's quite a dream team. It has been reported that double Oscar winner Cate Blanchett has signed on to star as iconic comedian Lucille Ball in an upcoming biopic that will be written by Aaron Sorkin ("Steve Jobs", "The Social Network").

The film will chronicle Ball's 20-year marriage to Desi Arnaz, her co-star on the TV sitcom "I Love Lucy", which ended in divorce. The couple's two children, Lucy Arnaz Jr. and Desi Arnaz Jr. will serve as producers, which should indicate that everything will meet the family's approval.

She is also working on an untitled Terence Malick project and has co-starred in the director's "Knight of Cups", which opens next year.

The first teaser trailer for the high-concept biopic "Steve Jobs" has been released online. Directed by Danny Boyle ("127 Hours") and written by Aaron Sorkin ("The Social Network") based on Walter Isaacson's book, the film is an unusual biography constructed around only three scenes, each one set at the unveiling of a product Jobs created. Aaron Sorkin's ambitious Steve Jobs biopic turned out to be a rather difficult endeavour. Initially developed for Sony Pictures, the film was offered to David Fincher ("Gone Girl") to direct, but he dropped out and was replaced by Danny Boyle ("127 Hours"), and had huge stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale circling the lead role before eventually leaving. Then Sony surprisingly gave up on the whole project which was subsequently picked up by Universal.

With a new studio in charge, the film still doesn't officially have a lead actor (although Michael Fassbender is courted for the role), but it seems to have found its leading lady. Natalie Portman is in negotiations to join Boyle's film as Jobs' daughter Lisa Brennan-Jobs, who has been described as the "the heroine of the movie".

The film is adapted from Walter Isaacson's best-selling biography "Steve Jobs" and it is produced by Scott Rudin, Christian Colson, Mark Gordon and Guymon Casady.
