Zendaya to Star in A24 Sci-Fi Film Written and Directed by Alex Garland

Zendaya ("The Odyssey", "Spider-Man: Brand New Day") has signed on to star in a new A24 sci-fi film written and directed Alex Garland ("Dredd", "Ex Machina"). This will be Garland's sixth collaboration with A24, following "Ex Machina", "Civil War", "Men", "Warfare", and the upcoming "Elden Ring" video game adaptation. Filming on the "Elden Ring" movie ended on July 30th, and the release date is set for March 3, 2028.

The new film's plot details are being kept under wraps. Filming is expected to begin in 2027. For Zendaya, this is her third collaboration with the studio, following the hit series "Euphoria" and the 2026 sleeper hit "The Drama", which co-starred Robert Pattinson and grossed $135 million worldwide.

Zendaya can next be seen in Denis Villeneuve's "Dune: Part Three", which opens in theaters on December 16, 2026. She's also attached to star as late singer Ronnie Spector in the biopic "Be My Baby", which will be another A24 collaboration, and she's set to voice the daughter of Shrek and Princess Fiona in DreamWorks Animation's "Shrek 5", which opens in theaters next summer.

Garland also wrote a script for the third installment in the "28 Years Later" trilogy, which Boyle called a "fantastic script". Unfortunately, the poor box office reception of "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple" could be a reason for Sony to give up on the trilogy. It's certainly not good news that Garland's next project after "Elden Ring" will be this untitled A24 sci-fi film.
