2017-razzie-awards-nominations-batman-v-superman-zoolander-2

If you've had enough of 2016's best films, it's time to see about rewarding the worst. "Zoolander No. 2" and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" lead the 37th Annual Razzie Awards with nine and eight nods, respectively, including the big ones: Worst Picture, Director and Screenplay. The films also received nominations in the acting categories for Ben Stiller, Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell, Owen Wilson, Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill.

Other contenders for the infamous awards include "Dirty Grandpa", "Alice Through the Looking Glass", "Independence Day: Resurgence", "Gods of Egypt", and "Hillary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party". The latter, a documentary, is an odd choice for the Razzies, but I suppose the political tensions and anti-Trump sentiments in Hollywood are reflected in this inclusion.

The Razzies expanded their Worst Picture category from five to six contenders this year. They also haven't announced any nominees for the Razzie's recent category, the Razzie Redeemer Award, first introduced in 2014. It's unclear whether the category has been excluded, or if they're having a hard time finding any redeeming performances for the past year. Either way, it would be a shame to lose it. Previous winners of the Redeemer Award were Ben Affleck for "Gone Girl" and "Argo" in 2015, and Sylvester Stallone for "Creed" in 2016.

The winners of the 2017 Razzie Awards will be announced on February 25th.

in-theaters-independence-day-resurgence-the-shallow-free-state-of-jones-neon-demon

This week in theaters get ready for worldwide destruction as "Independence Day: Resurgence" hits theaters. If big CGI movies aren't your thing, you could go for Blake Lively in a bikini fighting a Great White shark in "The Shallows". If that still isn't your thing, check out the historical drama "Free State of Jones" starring Matthew McConaughey. For kinky horror fans, Nicolas Winding Refn's "The Neon Demon" is now in theaters. More about each movie after the jump.

Synopses, details, critical reception, trailers, clips and more after the jump.

"Independence Day: Resurgence" is now in theaters, and we have six new clips and eighteen images from the film.

As expected, given the genre and even the critical reception of the 1996 original, this sequel has been getting plenty of harsh reviews, but also some unexpectedly favorable ones, as well. It's dumb, poorly acted, badly written and filled to the brim with CGI, but if you're not too picky about your B-movie fun and enjoyed every one of Roland Emmerich's previous disaster flicks, you should definitely check this one out.

Directed by Roland Emmerich, the film stars Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, Vivica A. Fox, Charlotte Gainsbourg, William Fichtner and Sela Ward.

independence-day-resurgence-character-videos-tv-spots-b-roll-new-posters

20th Century Fox has released a lot of new videos and posters for the sequel "Independence Day: Resurgence".

The first videos spotlight the characters from the original film and give us some idea of what they're doing 20 years after the first invasion, including Dr. Okum, who was apparently not killed, but has been in a coma until now. We still don't know what will wake him up in the sequel, but I suppose it's a big surprise of sorts. The other videos included are two new TV spots, which offer a brief glimpse of a giant creature which could be an alien queen, or something, and a B-Roll with some great behind-the-scenes footage.

Directed by Roland Emmerich, the film stars Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, Vivica A. Fox, Charlotte Gainsbourg, William Fichtner and Sela Ward.

"Independence Day: Resurgence" opens in theaters on June 24, 2016.

independence-day-resurgence-extended-trailer-featurettes-viral-videos

A massive amount of new footage from "Independence Day: Resurgence" is now available via a new extended international trailer, three featurettes, as well as a few TV spots and viral videos.

The 5-minute trailer alone probably runs through half of the movie's major plot points, but for those curious enough, it gives a much clearer idea of how humanity has been preparing for the imminent return of the malevolent aliens and how the old and new characters fit into the story. On the spectacle side of things, the new trailer hints at massive amounts of eye-popping set-pieces, but somehow I was left with the feeling that "more is less".

Directed by Roland Emmerich, the film stars Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, Vivica A. Fox, Charlotte Gainsbourg, William Fichtner and Sela Ward.

"Independence Day: Resurgence" opens in theaters on June 24, 2016.

independence-day-resurgence-tv-spot-and-new-posters

The first TV spot and eight posters for "Independence Day: Resurgence" have been released. The TV spot features the return of Dr. Brakish Okun (Brent Spiner), the zany scientist from the first film who was telepathically used by one of the aliens to communicate with President Whitmore (Bill Pullman). I always thought the doctor was dead following that scene, but apparently he isn't, and overall I think his return is a good thing for the sequel.

The posters are pretty much eight versions of the same design featuring the new alien city-destroyer (or whatever destroyer it's supposed to be now) hovering over various continents. After all, this is a global threat.

Roland Emmerich returns to helm the second part of the trilogy and the cast includes Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Charlotte Gainsbourg, William Fichtner and Sela Ward.

"Independence Day: Resurgence" opens in theaters on June 24, 2016.

2016-super-bowl-movie-trailers

The Super Bowl movie trailers are finally here and they're pretty awesome. The broadcast is one of the most-watched live television events of the year and all the major studios made sure that they showcased their tentpole productions. The asking-price for a 30-second spot this year was somewhere between $4.6 million and $5 million.

The movies featured this year are "Eddie the Eagle", "Gods of Egypt", "Alice Through the Looking Glass", "Captain America: Civil Warm", "Deadpool", "10 Cloverfield Lane", "The Jungle Book", "Jason Bourne", "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", "Independence Day: Resurgence", "X-Men: Apocalypse" and "The Secret Life of Pets".

The only major release missing from the lineup is Warner Bros' "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice", but the studio did secure two Turkish Airlines commercials featuring Ben Affleck and Jesse Eisenberg which invite us to visit Gotham and Metropolis. Both are included after the jump.

independence-day-resurgence-trailer

20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for the sequel "Independence Day: Resurgence". Director Roland Emmerich returns to helm this new installment which takes place 20 years after the alien invasion from the first film. In the meantime, humanity has been using the alien technology to beef up its defenses, and as the trailer reveals, that was a good idea.

The big bad aliens are back and they're bigger and badder. Also back are most of the original cast, except Will Smith whose character is revealed to have been killed during a test flight via the official viral website WarOf1996.com. That website is actually great and it's nice to see so much thought being put into the backstory that fills the gap between the two movies. Although, it won't matter that much if this new movie sucks.

The film stars Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Sela Ward.

"Independence Day: Resurgence" opens in theaters on June 24, 2016.

Independence Day 2 Resurgence Title, Synopsis and Set Photos Revealed

20th Century Fox arranged a special livestream event for the "Independence Day" sequel. During this event, director Roland Emmerich and the film's cast talked about the characters and as much of their respective backstories as they could, considering that the film is still in production and the plot is kept under wraps. You can watch the full event after the jump. The studio also revealed the film's title, which is "Independence Day: Resurgence", and the animated treatment for it, which is reminiscent of the original film's title intro. The live event also offered a look at the film's set and particularly one of the ships featured in the movie, a moon tug, which is a forklift of sorts.

"Independence Day: Resurgence" stars Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Sela Ward.

The film will open in theaters on June 24, 2016.

Check out the title treatment, the complete livestream event and set photos after the jump.
