Matthew Mcconaughey Austin Butler Pedro Pascal Tang Wei To Star In Park Chan Wooks Brigands Of Rattlecreek

Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey, Oscar nominee Austin Butler, Emmy nominee Pedro Pascal and BAFTA nominee Tang Wei ("Lust, Caution", "Blackhat") have joined the cast of the latest film from acclaimed South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook ("Oldboy", "No Other Choice"). Titled "The Brigands of Rattlecreek", the film is a Western thriller based on a screenplay by S. Craig Zahler ("Bone Tomahawk", "Dragged Across Concrete"), which Park will also adapt.

The film has been described as a passion project for the filmmaker, an iconic tale of vengeance and retribution set in the American West. Here is the official synopsis: "A capstone of the themes Park Chan-wook has plumbed across his entire body of work to date, the film is an emotionally explosive and visually stunning meditation on the consequences of violence, the value of family, the power of memory, and the true cost of life."

"The Brigands of Rattlecreek" will hit the market at the Cannes Film Festival, where Park is set to preside over the competition jury. Patrick Wachsberger's 193, a Legendary company, will represent international sales for the film. Park will also produce for Moho Film, alongside Bradley Fischer ("Zodiac"). Back Jisun for Moho Film, Mike Medavoy and Georgia Kacandes are executive producers.

McConaughey was previously attached to the project in 2019 when Amazon acquired the rights to the script after it had been featured on the Black List of best unproduced screenplays since 2006.

Patrick Wilson
Matthew Fox
The cast of writer/director S. Craig Zahler's western horror "Bone Tomahawk" is getting some awesome additions. Apart from previously announced Kurt Russell, who is also set to star in Quentin Tarantino's own western "The Hateful Eight", Zahler's film has also signed on Patrick Wilson ("The Conjuring"), Matthew Fox ("Lost"), Sean Young ("Blade Runner"), Richard Jenkins ("The Cabin in the Woods"), Lili Simmons ("Banshee"), David Arquette ("Scream"), Sid Haig ("The Lords of Salem "), Evan Jonigkeit ("Girls") and Kathryn Morris ("Cold Case"). The film follows the adventures of four men who attempt to rescue a group of captives from a band of cannibalistic troglodytes that live beyond the edge of civilization.

Patrick Wilson will play Arhur O'Dwyer, "a driven and thoughtful cowboy whose rise to the foreman position of a cattle outfit is interrupted by an unfortunate accident that reshapes his life in unforeseen ways". Lili Simmons will star as Samantha O'Dwyer, Arthur's wife and town doctor.

Matthew Fox will portray John Brooder, "the eloquent, albeit inscrutable gentleman whose dark inclinations have put him and his polished weapons at the very edge of the western frontier."

Kurt Russell will play Sheriff Hunt and Kathryn Morris will star as Hunt's wife. Jonigkeit will step into the shoes of the sheriff's young deputy.

Arquette and Haig will play a couple of brigands who set off a series of violent events.

"Bone Tomahawk" is expected to be ready for release next year.
