Sundance Film Festival Awards 2023 Winners - The Complete List

The winners of the 2023 Sundance Film Festival Awards have been revealed. This year's top jury prize went to writer/director A.V. Rockwell's drama "A Thousand and One". Other jury awards went to "Scrapper" (World Cinema Dramatic) and documentaries "Going to Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project" (U.S. Documentary) and "The Eternal Memory" (World Cinema Documentary). The true-story dramedy "Radical" won the Festival Favorite trophy.

Sundance Film Festival Awards 2022 Winners Announced

The Sundance Film Festival has announced the winners of the 2022 edition. Due to the Omicron surge, the awards ceremony took place on Twitter. Nikyatu Jusu's "Nanny" won the Grand Jury Prize in the US Dramatic Competition. The documentary "Navalny won both the Audience Award in the U.S. Documentary section, and the Festival Favorite award.

MS. PURPLE (2019) - Trailers, Clip, Featurette, Images and Poster

"Ms. Purple" is a drama directed by award-winning filmmaker Justin Chon ("Gook") from a script he co-wrote with Chris Dinh ("Everything Before Us").

The film follows Asian American sister and brother, Kasie (Tiffany Chu) and Carey (Teddy Lee), who live in Koreatown, Los Angeles, and struggled with the deep emotional wounds of being abandoned by their mother. Now, with their father on his death bed, the estranged siblings reconnect and confront their shared past, attempting to mend their relationship.

"Ms. Purple" premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival where it was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. It received a limited release in theaters on September 6, 2019.

BRITTANY RUNS A MARATHON (2019) - Trailer, Clips, Featurettes, Images and Posters

"Brittany Runs a Marathon" is a dramedy written and directed by Paul Downs Colaizzo. The film stars Jillian Bell as a 27-year-old overweight woman in New York City, whose hard-partying way of life begins to catch up to her, so she decides to get in shape by training for the city's annual marathon. Michaela Watkins, Lil Rel Howery, Alice Lee and Utkarsh Ambudkar co-star.

"Brittany Runs a Marathon" premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Audience award and was also nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. The film was released in select theaters on August 23, 2019.

Sundance 2018 Winners: CLEMENCY and ONE CHILD NATION Take Top Honors

The winners of the 2019 Sundance Film Festival awards have been announced. In U.S. dramatic competition, African-American filmmaker Chinonye Chukwu won for the prison drama "Clemency" starring Alfre Woodard. In the World Cinema Dramatic Category, Joanna Hogg's "The Souvenir" took home the Grand Jury Prize. In U.S. Documentary, top honors went to Nanfu Wang and Jialing Zhang's "One Child Nation", which explores China's infamous population-control policy through co-director Wang's family, while in the World Documentary category, "Honeyland" won no less than three prizes.

EIGHTH GRADE Trailer, Featurettes, Images and Poster

"Eighth Grade" is a dramedy written and directed by first-time helmer Bo Burnham. The film follows the struggles of an eighth-grader (Elsie Fisher), in her last week of classes before leaving to start high school. Josh Hamilton, Emily Robinson, Catherine Oliviere, Jake Ryan and Luke Prael co-star.

"Eighth Grade" premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival where it received a nomination for the Grand Jury Prize. It was released in select theaters on July 13, 2018, grossing $252,284 from just four theaters, a $63.071 per-screen average, which is the best of 2018, so far.

Trailer, Images and Poster for NANCY Starring Andrea Riseborough

The psychological thriller "Nancy" marks the feature film debut of writer/director Christina Choe, and it tells the story of a woman (Andrea Riseborough) who becomes increasingly convinced she was kidnapped as a child, when she meets a couple whose daughter went missing thirty years ago. As their bond deepens, reasonable doubts give way to willful belief - and the power of emotion threatens to overcome all rationality. Steve Buscemi, Ann Dowd, John Leguizamo, J. Smith-Cameron and Owen Campbell co-star.

"Nancy" premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and was released in select theaters on June 8, 2018. The film received generally positive reviews from critics.

Sundance 2018 Winners: THE MISEDUCATION OF CAMERON POST, KAILASH Take Top Honors

The Sundance Film Festival announced the winners of their 2018 awards during a ceremony hosted by Jason Mantzoukas in Park City, Utah. The winners of the Grand Jury Prizes were "The Miseducation of Cameron Post" for U.S. Dramatic, "Kailash" for U.S. Documentary, "Of Fathers and Sons" for World Cinema Documentary, and "Butterflies" for World Cinema Dramatic. Meanwhile, "Search", "Burden", "The Sentence" and "The Guilty" won Audience Awards.

During the festival, 123 feature-length and 69 short films were screened. This year's jurors were Barbara Chai, Simon Chinn, Chaz Ebert, Ezra Edelman, Matt Holzman, Rachel Morrison, Jada Pinkett Smith, Octavia Spencer, Michael Stuhlbarg, Joe Swanberg, Hanaa Issa, Ruben Östlund, Michael J. Werner, Joslyn Barnes, Billy Luther, Paulina Suarez and Ru Paul Charles.

2017 Sundance Film Festival Awards (Complete List)

The winner of the top prize at the Sundance Film Festival awards was Macon Blair's thriller "I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore". The winner of the Grand Jury Prize tells the story of a depressed woman (Melanie Lynskey) who is burglarized and sets out to track down the thieves alongside her obnoxious neighbor (Elijah Wood). Eliza Hittman took home the directing award for the drama "Beach Rats", which follows a teenager's struggle with his sexual identity.

New THE WITCH Trailers, Images and Posters

A24 has released two new trailers, as well as a few new images and posters for the horror film "The Witch".

The story takes place in 1630 New England and it follows a small family whose lives are torn apart when their newborn son mysteriously vanishes and their crops fail. The film won the Directing Award at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, and was also nominated for the Grand Jury Prize.

Written and directed by Robert Eggers, the film stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Katie Dickie, Harvey Scrimshaw, Lucas Dawson, and Ellie Grainger

"The Witch" opens in theaters on February 19th.

2016 Sundance Film Festival Awards Winners

The 2016 Sundance Film Festival has ended, and on Saturday night, the winners were announced. Just like "Whiplash" in 2014 and "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl" last year, this year we have another film that ended up winning both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award: Nate Parker's directorial debut "The Birth of a Nation". The film tells the story of Nat Turner, played by Parker, a former slave in America who leads a liberation movement in 1831 to free African-Americans in Virgina that results in a violent rebellion. The film was sold to Fox Searchlight for distribution for the record sum of $17.5 million. Parker also wrote and produced the film.

The festival competition included 123 feature films, all presented to audiences in Park City, Utah. Simon Kilmurry, Jill Lepore, Shola Lynch, Louie Psihoyos, Amy Ziering, Mark Adams, Lena Dunham, Jon Hamm, Avy Kaufman, Franklin Leonard, Randall Poster, Fernanda Solórzano, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Mila Aung-Thwin, Tine Fischer and Asif Kapadia were the members of the jury for the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.

Z FOR ZACHARIAH Trailer, Clips and Poster

The post-apocalyptic drama "Z for Zachariah" begins a limited release in theaters today, so here are the official trailer, four clips and a poster for the movie. Margot Robbie stars as a young woman surviving on her own after a nuclear war has wiped out humanity. One day, she encounters another survivor (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a distraught scientist driven mad by radiation exposure and his desperate search for others. The two form a fragile bond that is put to the test when another man (Chris Pine) shows up. Directed by Craig Zobel, the film has nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.

In Theaters: INSIDE OUT, DOPE, INFINITELY POLAR BEAR, THE OVERNIGHT

This weekend, Disney and Pixar are releasing their new awesome animated film "Inside Out". The movie has already scored stellar reviews and is aiming at the No. 1 spot at the box-office. The other wide release of the week is the Sundance flick "Dope", a coming-of-age dramedy that has also won the hearts of the critics. The limited releases of the week include two other films that received nominations at the Sundance Film Festival. One of them is the drama "Infinitely Polar Bear" starring Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana, and the other is the R-rated comedy "The Overnight" starring Taylor Schilling and Adam Scott. THE WOLFPACK Documentary Trailer and Poster

This week we have another Sundance film making its debut in theaters. The winner of the Grand Jury Prize, acclaimed documentary "The Wolfpack" is getting a limited released today, so here are the official trailer and poster. The film follows the Angulo brothers who were locked away from society in an apartment on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and discovered about the outside world through the films that they watch. Nicknamed the Wolfpack, the brothers spend their childhood re-enacting their favorite films using elaborate homemade props and costumes. Their world is shaken up when one of the brothers escapes and everything changes.

Director Crystal Moselle met the brothers in 2010 through a chance encounter as they were walking down New York City's First Avenue, and became friends with them. She later learned about their isolated life and decided to pursue their story with financial support and assistance provided by The Tribeca Film Institute.

ME & EARL & THE DYING GIRL Trailer, Clips and Posters

The drama "Me & Earl & the Dying Girl" opens today in theaters (limited release), so here is the trailer, six clips and five posters for the movie. The film tells the story of an awkward high school senior (Thomas Mann), whose outlook on life is radically changed after befriending a classmate (Olivia Cooke) who has just been diagnosed with cancer. Winner of the Sundance Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award, the film is directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon and it also stars RJ Cyler, Nick Offerman, Connie Britton, Jon Bernthal, Molly Shannon and Katherine C. Hughes.

I AM MICHAEL Images: James Franco, Zachary Quinto and Emma Roberts in Sundance Drama

A batch of 18 new images have been released for the drama "I Am Michael". Directed by Justin Kelly and produced by Gus Van Sant ("Milk"), the film tells the true story of a gay activist (James Franco) who rejected his homosexuality and became a Christian pastor. The film also stars Zachary Quinto, Emma Roberts, Charlie Carver and Daryl Hannah.

"I Am Michael" makes its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.

2014 Sundance Awards Winners Announced

The winners of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival have been announced. The festival's big winner is the drama "Whiplash" from writer/director Damien Chazelle. The film won both the Audience Award and the U.S. Dramatic Grand Jury Prize, just like last year's Sundance hit "Fruitvale Station". "Whiplash" is the story of a young musician (Miles Teller) who struggles to make it as a top jazz drummer. The film also stars J.K. Simmons and Melissa Benoist. Damien Chazelle's resume prior to "Whiplash" includes writing credits for "The Last Exorcism Part II" and the upcoming thriller "Grand Piano".

Trailer and Poster for the Horror Film THE BABADOOK

The first trailer and poster for the Australian horror film "The Babadook" have been released. The film, written and directed by Jennifer Kent, tells the story of a single mother (Essie Davis), plagued by the violent death of her husband. Faced with her 6-year-old son's (Noah Wiseman) fear of a monster lurking in the house, she soon discovers a sinister presence all around her. "The Babadook" premiered at Sundance, but it doesn't have an official release date.

Trailer for A MOST WANTED MAN Starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Daniel Brühl and Rachel McAdams

The first trailer for the thriller "A Most Wanted Man" has been released. The film is based on the novel written by John le Carré ("Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy") and it tells the story of a Chechen Muslim who illegally immigrates to Hamburg, where he gets caught up in the international war on terror. The film is directed by Anton Corbijn ("The American") and it stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Daniel Brühl, Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright and Willem Dafoe.

"A Most Wanted Man" will premiere at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.
