Paranormal Activity 5 The Ghost Dimension Movie Clips, Images and Poster

Today we have a bunch of new clips and images, as well as the official poster for "Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension", the fifth and final installment in the found footage franchise which opens today in theaters.

Directed by Gregory Plotkin, this new sequel focuses on a family who are fighting to save their daughter from an evil entity with a sinister plan with the help of a special camera that can see spirits. That last part is more of a gimmick for the ultimate 3D experience. And, according to critics, it just plain sucks.

The film has gathered a great deal of bad reviews, with Variety's critic going as far as to say that "One would have to trawl through the deepest recesses of Romanian art cinema to find a film with as many static, silent shots of empty rooms and unfurnished hallways."

Paranormal Activity 5 The Ghost Dimension Trailer

Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for director Gregory Plotkin's "Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension", the fifth and final entry in the found footage franchise. This last installment follows a new family who move into a house, discover a video camera and some tapes, and get in trouble with the killer entity known as Toby.

For the first time in the history of the series we will be able to actually see the entities, which actually looks more like a gimmick for the movie's 3D presentation. Yes, "The Ghost Dimension" will be released in 3D. Some of the visual effects remind me of "Hollow Man". Is that a good, or a bad thing ?

I'm not sure how 3D works in a found footage film and I'm almost too afraid to find out, but I guess the filmmakers probably found ways to stabilize the shots more effectively for the 3D shots. Either way, this final chapter also promises lots of answers to questions that I honestly stopped asking after the third movie.

"Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension" opens in theaters on October 23rd.

a-haunted-house-2-new-posters

Four new posters have been released for the comedy sequel "A Haunted House 2". If you don't remember the first film, it's probably because it wasn't funny. Not one bit. The Marlon Wayans starrer is a spoof of horror films like the "Paranormal Activity" franchise, and the new posters make it clear that the sequel will also include "Insidious 2" and "The Conjuring" on the spoof list along with the recent "Paranormal Activity" spin-off "The Marked Ones". I'll admit the posters are pretty good and the taglines correctly spoof the targeted flicks, but let's hope the movie can muster up the same kind of wit. Gabriel Iglesias, Jamie Pressly, Essence Atkins, Affion Crockett, Dave Sheridan and Ashley Rickards also star.

"A Haunted House 2" opens in theaters on March 28, 2014.

oculus movie clips

Three new movie clips have been released for the horror film "Oculus". With the team of producers that gave us "Insidious" and "Paranormal Activity" behind it, the film looks to be genuinely intriguing and early reviews seem to confirm that it's not your average horror flick (100% on Rottentomatoes.com, so far). The film is co-written and directed by Mike Flanagan, based on his own short "Oculus: Chapter 3 - The Man with the Plan" and tells the story of a woman who tries to exonerate her brother, who was convicted of murder, by proving that the crime was committed by the Lasser Glass, an antique mirror which unleashed a malevolent supernatural force. The cast features Karen Gillan, Brenton Thwaites, Rory Cochrane and Katee Sackhoff.

"Oculus" opens in theaters on April 11, 2014.

oculus new trailer poster

A new trailer and poster have been released for the upcoming horror "Oculus", from the producers of "Insidious" and "Paranormal Activity". The film is co-written and directed by Mike Flanagan, based on his own short "Oculus: Chapter 3 - The Man with the Plan". The cast features Karen Gillan, Brenton Thwaites, Rory Cochrane and Katee Sackhoff.

"Oculus" opens in theaters on April 11, 2014.

oculus-horror-film-image

The first trailer and poster for the horror film "Oculus" have been released. The film is yet another story of demonic entities wreaking havoc in the world of the living. This time it's about a malevolent supernatural force unleashed through an antique mirror. It sounds a bit similar to Alexandre Aja's "Mirrors". The film is billed as "From the producers of Paranormal Activity and Insidious", which is no guarantee of the movie's quality, but it will certainly drive people to see it. It surprisingly holds a 7.7 score on IMDb.com from 97 users, which could be a good sign. The cast features Karen Gillan, Brenton Thwaites, Rory Cochrane and Katee Sackhoff.

"Oculus" opens in theaters on April 11, 2014.

lone-survivor-box-office-champ

Peter Berg's true story war actioner "Lone Survivor" provided the biggest surprise of the weekend at the box-office. The film received its wide release this weekend, and, as expected, it went straight to the top. But, what nobody saw coming was that the film would go on to gross $38 million in its first three days of wide release, double the amount that was projected by the studio itself. Far behind, but holding strong in second place is Disney's surprisingly resilient animation project "Frozen", which has earned $15 million this weekend and a total $317 million in the US alone. The worldwide cume of the film now stands at $712 million, the best of any of Walt Disney Animation Studios' projects. The previous record holder for the studio was 2010's "Tangled", which grossed $591 million worldwide.

The week's other new wide release, Renny Harlin's "The Legend of Hercules" is 2014's first major flop. The action epic opened in fourth place with $8.6 million, small change compared to its costly $70 million budget. Bad production values, acting, writing and directing were widely cited by critics as reasons to stay away from this movie, and it seems that audiences agreed.

Last week's "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones" took a steep dive, falling from No.2 to No.9 with a 65% drop at the box-office. The spin-off is, so far, the worst of the franchise as far as earnings go and it looks like the franchise is not ready to break out of its Halloween schedule.

box-office-paranormal-activity-marked-ones-frozen

The box-office this weekend offered a bit of a surprise, as Disney's animated feature "Frozen" managed to climb back to the top, scoring $20 million and a domestic total of $297 million, while the "Paranormal Activity" spin-off "The Marked Ones" landed in second place. The found-footage horror has the lowest wide opening of all the "Paranormal Activity" films. The highest-grossing of the five films in the franchise was "Paranormal Activity 3" which earned $52 million in its first three days. Still, "The Marked Ones" had a budget of only $5 million, like most of the franchise's installments, and with an additional $16 million earned overseas, it's still outrageously profitable.

The spin-off's reduced profits could be attributed to the fact that the "Paranormal Activity" films usually do well during Halloween. The decision to throw out this latest installment so soon after the winter holiday is strange, to say the least, but "The Marked Ones" is only a spin-off, and the direct sequel, "Paranormal Activity 5" will be released, as usual, on October 24, 2014.

The teaser trailer and poster for the comedy sequel "A Haunted House 2" have been released. The film is a spoof of the "Paranormal Activity" franchise and similar horror flicks. Judging from this trailer I believe they are also taking aim at 2012's "Sinister" which starred Ethan Hawke. The plot here is simple enough. The protagonist of the first film, played by Marlon Wayans, moves into a new house, only to discover that this one is haunted as well.

The film also stars Gabriel Iglesias, Jamie Pressly, Essence Atkins, Affion Crockett, Dave Sheridan and Ashley Rickards.

"A Haunted House 2" opens in theaters on March 28, 2014.

Paranormal Activity Marked Ones 2014

The first trailer for the horror sequel Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones has been released. The film marks a departure of sorts from the classic Paranormal Activity formula. Firstly, it won't be released in October. Secondly, it features Latino characters and the events take place in the urban setting of Oxnard, California. Other than that, for those expecting a comeback of the Paranormal Activity franchise, it doesn't look like this will be it. In fact, the only thing truly creepy here, is the acting. And, in trying to assure fans that this is still connected to the previous installments, the trailer reveals a bit too much of the plot. The film stars Richard Cabral, Carlos Pratts, Eddie J. Fernandez, Jorge Diaz, David Fernandez Jr., Kimberly Ables Jindra, Tonja Kahlens and Frank Salinas. Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones opens on January 3, 2014.

Star Wars

Disney has officially confirmed the release date for "Star Wars: Episode VII". While no specific date was selected by the studio, they have announced that the eagerly awaited sequel will arrive in theaters in the summer of 2015. This means that pre-production is moving along quite nicely, because the schedule looks to be pretty tight. George Lucas' prequels had a production time of aproximatively three years each. If the timeline planned by Disney is correct, that means they have maybe less than two years left to complete and release the film. Since the script is probably done and awaiting rewrites, casting is already underway and director J.J. Abrams is still onboard to direct, despite rumors saying otherwise, they should be on track for a summer 2015 release.

Mission IMpossible Tom Cruise

Writer/director Christopher McQuarrie ("Valkyrie", "Jack Reacher") has been officially confirmed as the director of "Mission: Impossible 5". Tom Cruise will return to star in the sequel and it seems Simon Pegg is also set to reprise his role from "M:I - Ghost Protocol". The script is written by Drew Pearce ("Iron Man 3"). "M:I 5" will have to work hard to beat the record $700 million earned by its predecessor. Christopher McQuarrie has also written the upcoming sci-fi actioner "Edge of Tomorrow" (formerly "All You Need is Kill") starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.

Paranormal Activity

Not one, but two "Paranormal Activity" sequels are in the works and will be released in 2014. The first is a Latino spin-off titled "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones" that will reportedly focus on a Catholic inquiry into a suspected demonic possession and it probably won't relate directly to previous films in the franchise. "The Marked Ones" opens in theaters on January 3, 2014. The second is a direct sequel to the franchise, it's titled "Paranormal Activity 5", and it will open in theaters on October 24, 2014. Given the poor quality of parts 3 and 4, it's probably a good idea for the filmmakers to take a break from releasing a new installment in 2013 and maybe, hopefully, they can find an interesting direction for the franchise.

Man of Steel movie Poster The Purge Movie Poster

It's sequel time ! Whenever a movie scores big at the box-office, it's a given that the studio is contemplating a sequel. Such is the case with the dystopian home-invasion horror "The Purge" starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey. The film cost only $3M to make, but grossed over $36M in its opening weekend, so it's no surprise that it only took Universal two days to announce that "The Purge 2" is in development. The film was produced by Jason Blum, a man who is known in Hollywood for his ability to turn ultra-low budget flicks into big hits. His portfolio includes "Paranormal Activity", "Insidious" and "Sinister". The latter also starred Ethan Hawke. It is unknown if director James De Monaco will return to work on the sequel.

The other sequel announced today has nothing to with box-office returns. Not yet, anyway. In the case of "Man of Steel", the Superman reboot directed by Zack Snyder ("Watchmen") and produced by Christopher Nolan ("The Dark Knight" trilogy), the sequel decision is based on the very positive early reviews and strong buzz, which all seem to indicate an inevitable box-office hit when the movie hits theaters this Friday. Rumors indicate that both director Snyder and screenwriter David S. Goyer will return for the sequel. Nolan will probably produce the next film and he is involved in the development of the "Justice League" movie, which is said to focus on the rebooted Superman character.
