Tom Cruise is Returning for TOP GUN 3

It's official. Paramount has revealed during its Las Vegas CinemaCon presentation, that Tom Cruise will once again return as Peter "Maverick" Mitchell in "Top Gun 3". Producer Jerry Bruckheimer is also on board. The project was first revealed to be in the works in 2024. "Top Gun: Maverick" co-writer Ehren Kruger penned the script alongside Eric Warren Singer and Christopher McQuarrie.

The first "Top Gun" was directed by Tony Scott, and it was a huge hit when it was released in 1986, grossing $357.2 million worldwide against a $15 million budget. It took 36 years for a sequel to get made, under the direction of Joseph Kosinski ("F1"), but it proved to be an even bigger hit, raking in $1.5 billion during the COVID pandemic against a much larger $177 million budget. The second installment also starred Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Lewis Pullman, Monica Barbaro and Glen Powell, and marked the final film role for original "Top Gun" actor Val Kilmer, who played Tom "Iceman" Kazansky. Kilmer later died in 2025.

Last year, Cruise also spoke about the project: "We're thinking and talking about many different stories and what could we do and what's possible. It took me 35 years to figure out Top Gun: Maverick. So, all of these things we're working on, we're discussing Days of Thunder and Top Gun: Maverick".

Paramount currently has an impressive slate of upcoming movies, including "Scary Movie 7", Taylor Sheridan's "Call of Duty" movie, a new Damien Chazelle film starring Cillian Murphy, and a new horror film set in the "Longlegs", with Nicholas Cage reprising the iconic role of the titular Satanic serial killer.

Christopher McQuarrie to Write and Direct KING CONAN Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger

Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to reprise his iconic role in a new Conan the Barbarian movie titled "King Conan", which is now in development at 20th Century Studios. The film will be written and directed by "Mission: Impossible" franchise scribe and helmer Christopher McQuarrie.

Schwarzenegger made the announcement in an appearance at the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio: "With King Conan, it's a great old story that Conan was forty years as King, and now he gets forced out of the kingdom, and there's conflict, of course, but somehow he comes back, and there's all kinds of madness, violence, magic, and creatures and stuff like that".

Conan was created by Robert E. Howard in 1932. Marvel Comics launched its "Conan the Barbarian" title in 1970, adapting many of Howard's tales along with original material. Arnold Schwarzenegger played the character on the big screen in Universal's 1982 fantasy film of the same name, and its 1984 sequel "Conan the Destroyer". The films helped cement Schwarzenegger as a movie star. A threequel titled "Conan the Conqueror" was in the works in the late '80s but was never made. Lionsgate attempted to reboot the franchise in 2011 with Jason Momoa, but the film flopped with $63 million worldwide.

Schwarzenegger can next be seen in Amazon's upcoming Christmas action-comedy "The Man with the Bag"

Hannah Waddingham Joins MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 8 Cast

Emmy-winning "Ted Lasso" star Hannah Waddingham has joined the cast of the eighth "Mission: Impossible" movie. "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two", the film is the final installment in the long-running series, which stars Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt.

The news of Waddingham's casting was announced by series writer Christopher McQuarrie via Instagram. He captioned the photo of Waddingham writing "#GodSpeed #DeadReckoning."

Cruise was filming aboard a U.S. aircraft carrier in the Adriatic Sea, which is also where the photo of Waddingham was taken. The cast also includes Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and Rebecca Ferguson.

"Dead Reckoning Part One" will be released in theaters on July 13, 2023, while "Part Two" will debut on June 28, 2024. The seventh film also stars Vanessa Kirby as the daughter of Max Mitsopolis, played by Vanessa Redgrave in the original 1996 film. Henry Czerny also returns as Eugene Kittridge, the former director of the IMF from the first film.

The villain will be played by Esai Morales. Other cast members include Hayley Atwell, Shea Whigham, Frederick Schmidt, Pom Klementieff, Rob Delaney, Cary Elwes, Indira Varma, Mark Gatiss, Charles Parnell, Greg Davis, Marcin Dorociński, Lampros Kalfuntzos, Mariela Garriga and Antonio Bustorff.

Nicholas Hoult Joins Tom Cruise In Next MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE

"Mad Max: Fury Road" and "X-Men" star Nicholas Hoult has signed on to star opposite Tom Cruise in the upcoming seventh "Mission: Impossible" sequel. The news has been confirmed by the film's director Christopher McQuarrie via Instagram: "Say, @nicholashoult, care to raise a little hell?", to which Hoult responded, "Love to. Though why stop at a little?".

The seventh and eighth installments in the long-running action franchise will shoot back-to-back. Although the plot remains a secret, Hoult is believed to be playing the villain. Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg and Rebecca Ferguson will return alongside franchise newcomers Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff and Shea Whigham.

The first "Mission: Impossible" sequel will be released on July 23, 2021, and the second on August 5, 2022.

Hoult recently finished work on Taylor Sheridan's new film, the western thriller "Those Who Wish Me Dead", in which he stars alongside Angelina Jolie and Jon Bernthal. He will also lend his voice to the animated TV series "Crossing Swords".

Sandra Bullock Returning to Netflix for Post-Incarceration Movie

Sandra Bullock will once again collaborate with Netflix following the success of post-apocalyptic thriller "Bird Box". The actress is set to star in an untitled drama from director Nora Fingscheidt ("System Crasher") and producer Graham King.

The film will focus on life after prison and Bullock will star as a woman released from prison after serving time for a violent crime, who struggles to adapt to a society that refuses to forgive her past. Facing severe judgment from her former friends and peers, her only hope for redemption is finding the estranged younger sister she was forced to leave behind.

The screenplay is penned by "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" helmer Christopher McQuarrie. King will produce for GK Films alongside Bullock through her Fortis Films, as well as Veronica Ferres for Construction Film. Nan Morales, Nicola Shindler, Sally Wainwright and Colin Vaines will executive produce the film.

Hayley Atwell Joins Tom Cruise in Next MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE Movie

"Captain America" star Hayley Atwell has joined the cast of the new installment in the "Mission: Impossible" series. The announcement was made on Instagram by Christopher McQuarrie, who has helmed and penned the scripts for "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" and "Mission: Impossible - Fallout". The filmmaker will return to write and direct the next two film in the action franchise that stars Tom Cruise as super-spy Ethan Hunt.

McQuarrie posted a photo of Atwell on top of an Impossible Missions Force binder and wrote "Should you choose to accept...", to which the actress responded, "Mission: Accepted. Though I'm not the sort to follow order..."

The yet-untitled "Mission: Impossible 7" is set for release on July 23, 2021. The eighth installment will follow a year later, on August 5, 2022. Both films will be shot back-to-back.

The six films in the series have delivered a total of $3.57 billion in worldwide box office. The last installment in the 23-year-old series, 2018's "Fallout", was the highest grossing film of the franchise with $791.1 million globally.

Atwell will also reprise the role of Peggy Carter, lending her voice to the character for the Marvel's animated series "What If?", which explores pivotal moments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and turns them on their head, leading the audience into uncharted territory. The show is expected to be released in 2021.

"Mission: Impossible - Fallout" is the sixth installment in the "Mission: Impossible" series. The film is written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who also helmed the previous installment, "Rogue Nation".

In this new sequel, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team find themselves in a race against time after a mission goes wrong. The film also stars Henry Cavill, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Rebecca Ferguson, Sean Harris, Michelle Monaghan, Angela Bassett and Alec Baldwin.

"Mission: Impossible - Fallout" opened in theaters on July 27, 2018 and received mostly positive reviews, with many considering it the best installment in the series. The film is expected to open with around $60 million at the box-office from 4,386 theaters. The film is outpacing all previous films in the series according to online ticket retailer Fandango.com, and it scored a franchise-best $6 million from Thursday previews in 3,300 theaters.

THE MUMMY (2017) - Teaser Trailer and Poster

The first trailer and poster for the upcoming "The Mummy" reboot have been released online. Directed by "Star Trek" and "Transformers" writer Alex Kurtzman based on a script by Christopher McQuarrie ("Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation") and Jon Spaihts ("Prometeus"), the film reimagines the classic mummy as an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her and is awakened in the present, ready to terrorize humanity with her terrible powers.

The film stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance and Russell Crowe

"The Mummy" is set to open in theaters on June 9, 2017.

Watch Tom Cruise Cling To a Plane at 5,000 Feet in the Air for MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5 Stunt

If you don't see Tom Cruise perilously hanging from a tall building or a moving vehicle, then it's not a "Mission: Impossible" movie. Which is why today we can see Cruise clinging to a military aircraft at 5,000 feet in the air for a scene from the upcoming "Mission: Impossible 5". The actor's crazy stunts have become a sort of trademark for this franchise and I'll have to admit it's a damn good selling point. The sequel also stars Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Alec Baldwin, Sean Harris and Rebecca Ferguson.

"Mission: Impossible 5" is scheduled for release on December 25, 2015.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5 Images Featuring Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg and Jeremy Renner

As "Mission: Impossible 5" is currently in production, we finally get the first images of the cast. The photos show the team, specifically stars Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames, reuniting for the sequel which will be directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the writer of "Jack Reacher", "Edge of Tomorrow" and the classic "The Usual Suspects". The cast will also include Alec Baldwin, Sean Harris and Rebecca Ferguson. No plot elements are know at this point.

"Mission: Impossible 5" is scheduled for release on December 25, 2015.

NEWS UPDATE: Colin Firth, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Purge 2, Insidious: Chapter 3

Colin Firth ("The King's Speech") will star in an adaptation of Jean-Patrick Manchette's noir novel "Three to Kill". The adaptation will be directed by Christopher McQuarrie ("Jack Reacher", "The Usual Suspects") who is also set to begin shooting "Mission: Impossible 5" in February 2014. Firth will star as a "disillusioned businessman witnesses a murder and finds himself being hunted by two relentless sociopaths". For more details, here is the book's synopsis:

"Businessman Georges Gerfaut witnesses a murder—and is pursued by the killers. His conventional life knocked off the rails, Gerfaut turns the tables and sets out to track down his pursuers. Along the way, he learns a thing or two about himself…. Manchette—masterful stylist, ironist, and social critic—limns the cramped lives of professionals in a neo-conservative world."

A release date has been announced for "Mad Max: Fury Road". The new installment in the post-apocalyptic franchise is set to open in theaters on May 15, 2015. The film has been a very long time in the making and it has been shooting for about three years. "Fury Road" will be directed by George Miller who has also directed the previous three Mad Max movies, and the cast includes Tom Hardy ("The Dark Knight Rises") as the new Max, Nicholas Hoult ("X-Men: First Class"), Charlize Theron ("Monster") and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley ("Transformers: Dark of the Moon").

Universal Pictures has announced the release date for the sequel to the hit home-invasion horror "The Purge". The sequel will hit theaters on June 20, 2014. The decision to make the sequel came immediately after "The Purge" grossed $34 million in its opening weekend versus a budget of $3 million. The new installment will be produced by the first film's writer/director James DeMonaco and co-producer Michael Bay. "The Purge" starred Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey, and I'm curious to see if the sequel will pick up the story with the same characters, or at least what's left of them, or if they'll go for a different set of characters for a new Purge day.

And, last but definitely not least, the third installment in the "Insidious" series also has an official release date. "Insidious: Chapter 3" will be released on April 3, 2015. The sequel's script will once again be penned by Leigh Whannell ("Saw"). Director James Wan who had great success with both films in the franchise and scored another huge hit with this year's haunted house horror "The Conjuring" has expressed his desire to try out other genres for a change. In fact, he is currently working on "Fast & Furious 7", so it's possible that he won't return to helm the new sequel.

SEQUEL NEWS: Star Wars Episode VII, Mission: Impossible 5, Paranormal Activity 5

Disney has officially confirmed the release date for "Star Wars: Episode VII". While no specific date was selected by the studio, they have announced that the eagerly awaited sequel will arrive in theaters in the summer of 2015. This means that pre-production is moving along quite nicely, because the schedule looks to be pretty tight. George Lucas' prequels had a production time of aproximatively three years each. If the timeline planned by Disney is correct, that means they have maybe less than two years left to complete and release the film. Since the script is probably done and awaiting rewrites, casting is already underway and director J.J. Abrams is still onboard to direct, despite rumors saying otherwise, they should be on track for a summer 2015 release.

Writer/director Christopher McQuarrie ("Valkyrie", "Jack Reacher") has been officially confirmed as the director of "Mission: Impossible 5". Tom Cruise will return to star in the sequel and it seems Simon Pegg is also set to reprise his role from "M:I - Ghost Protocol". The script is written by Drew Pearce ("Iron Man 3"). "M:I 5" will have to work hard to beat the record $700 million earned by its predecessor. Christopher McQuarrie has also written the upcoming sci-fi actioner "Edge of Tomorrow" (formerly "All You Need is Kill") starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.

Not one, but two "Paranormal Activity" sequels are in the works and will be released in 2014. The first is a Latino spin-off titled "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones" that will reportedly focus on a Catholic inquiry into a suspected demonic possession and it probably won't relate directly to previous films in the franchise. "The Marked Ones" opens in theaters on January 3, 2014. The second is a direct sequel to the franchise, it's titled "Paranormal Activity 5", and it will open in theaters on October 24, 2014. Given the poor quality of parts 3 and 4, it's probably a good idea for the filmmakers to take a break from releasing a new installment in 2013 and maybe, hopefully, they can find an interesting direction for the franchise.

Tom Cruise to Star in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5

Not like it's a big surprise. Tom Cruise and "Mission: Impossible" are a package deal. It's no wonder then that Cruise has signed on to produce and star in the new sequel which will most probably be directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who previously wrote "Valkyrie" and directed "Jack Reacher", both starring Cruise. "Mission: Impossible 5" will be produced, once again, by J.J. Abrams. The fourth installment, "Ghost Protocol" was directed by Pixar's creative genius Brad Bird (""Ratatouille", "The Incredibles") and was easily the best of the franchise and one of the highest grossing. Paramount has not set a release date for the sequel, yet and production is still a long way from moving forward, but now we know for sure that it's coming.

New Trailer for JACK THE GIANT SLAYER

The third and most complete trailer for Bryan Singer's "Jack the Giant Slayer" is here. Although the trailer is amped up for maximum excitement, I honestly find the movie to be a pointless retelling of a classic tale with the addition of epic battles and unconvincing CGI. The cast includes Nicholas Hoult, Ewan McGregor, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy and Stanley Tucci, a selection of actors that can elevate even the dumbest of films. "Jack the Giant Slayer" opens on March 1st, in 3D.
