David Oyelowo And Viola Prettejohn To Star In Girl With Dragon Tatoo Series

Emmy and BAFTA nominee David Oyelowo ("Silo", "Selma") and Viola Prettejohn ("The Crown", "Amadeus") are set to lead Sky's TV adaptation of Stieg Larsson's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", the first in Larsson's "Millennium" trilogy. Sony Pictures Television and Left Bank Pictures will produce the series. The show is written by Amanda Coe, Steve Lightfoot and Angela LaManna. Reinaldo Marcus Green ("King Richard") directs and executive produces, with Andrea Harkin and Amy Neil also directing. Filming begins in Lithuania next month.

The story will be set in the present day, and it follows canceled star journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Oyelowo) and uncompromising hacker Lisbeth Salander (Prettejohn) as they investigate the disappearance of Harriet Vanger, who vanished more than three decades ago from the secluded island home of one of Sweden's most powerful industrial dynasties. As they delve deeper into the Vanger family's buried past, their investigation draws them closer to a chilling threat unfolding dangerously close to them in the present.

Casting is still underway. Sony Pictures Television, which owns Left Bank, is selling the show abroad and is looking for buyers in the U.S. The books were previously adapted into a Swedish trilogy starring Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist. "The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo" also received an American adaptation directed by David Fincher that starred Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig.

Sky scripted originals boss Meghan Lyvers said that "Salander and Blomkvist are two of modern fiction's most iconic and compelling characters, and we're thrilled to have Viola and David bringing them to life for a new generation".

Left Bank boss Charlotte Moore added: "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is an iconic story with themes of power, corruption, justice and violence against women that feel even more timely today. In Viola Prettejohn and David Oyelowo, we have two extraordinary actors at the heart of this adaptation and really look forward to audiences enjoying their take on these compelling and complex characters".

Executive producers include Coe, Lightfoot, LaManna, Moore and John Phillips for Left Bank Pictures and Sam Hoyle for Sky. Nuala O'Leary is series producer. Scott Rudin and Amy Pascal, who produced the American adaptation, also serve as executive producers. The creative team includes production designer Jo Finkel, cinematographer Yaron Orbach, hair and make-up designer Sharon Martin, and costume designer Nicole Fischnaller.

Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Tv Series In The Works At Sky

Stieg Larsson's novel "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" is getting another adaptation, this time for the small screen. A new series is being developed at Sky with Steve Lightfoot ("The Punisher", "Behind Her Eyes", "Spider-Noir") and Angela LaManna ("The Haunting Of Bly Manor") set to write and executive produce. The eight-episode series will be produced by Left Bank Pictures's Andy Harries, Charlotte Moore and John Phillips, alongside Sam Hoyle for Sky, Amy Pascal, and Scott Rudin.

The book follows disgraced journalist Mikael Blomkvist and hacker Lisbeth Salander as they investigate the mysterious disappearance of a girl from a wealthy family 40 years earlier. The show will bring the story into the present, grounded in the characters and investigative DNA of Stieg Larsson's "Millennium" novels, with themes that carry heightened relevance today.

Production will begin in Lithuania this spring. The series will be available on Sky in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Sony Pictures Television will handle international distribution with pre-sale efforts already underway in the United States.

Larsson completed three novels in the series before his death in 2004: "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo", "The Girl Who Played With Fire", and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest". David Lagercrantz then took over writing the novels and published "The Girl in the Spider's Web", "The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye", and "The Girl Who Lived Twice". Karin Smirnoff recently took over the series, publishing the books "The Girl in the Eagle's Talons" in 2022 and "The Girl with Ice in Her Veins" in 2024. The books have sold more than 100 million copies combined worldwide.

Amazon was also working on a series based on "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", but the project never moved forward. The first three books were previously adapted into a trilogy of Swedish films starring Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist. David Fincher directed an American adaptation of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" starring Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig. In 2018, Claire Foy" starred in an adaptation of "The Girl in the Spider's Web".

Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Reboot Tv Series In The Works At Amazon

Amazon is developing a series centred on Lisbeth Salander, the character created by Stieg Larsson for his best-selling Millennium series of novels.

A collaborative effort between Amazon Studios, Left Bank Pictures, and Sony Pictures Television, the series is tentatively titled "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo", and it will be standalone project featuring a new story, new setting and characters. It will not be a direct sequel or continuation of any previous books or movies.

At this point, no writing team or cast members have been attached to the series. Andy Harries ("Strike Back", "The Crown", "Outlander") will executive produce along with Rob Bullock ("The Night Manager", "Wild at Heart").

Lisbeth Salander is the protagonist of Larsson's award-winning Millennium trilogy. The character first appeared in the 2005 novel "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", and later in its sequels, "The Girl Who Played with Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest". After Larsson's death, David Lagercrantz took over and published the books "The Girl in the Spider's Web", "The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye", and "The Girl Who Lived Twice". The books have sold more than 100 million copies combined worldwide.

There have been, so far, five big screen adaptations featuring the character. The first three books were adapted into the 2009 Swedish-language trilogy starring Noomi Rapace as Salander. Two years later, David Fincher attempted an English-language trilogy, but never made it past the first book. The 2011 film starred Rooney Mara. Finally, in 2018, Lagercrantz's "The Girl in the Spider's Web" was adapted with Claire Foy in the lead role.

The crime thriller "The Girl in the Spider's Web" is a reboot of the U.S. cinematic adaptation of Stieg Larsson's Millennium series. The previous film, David Fincher's "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo starred Rooney Mara as hacker Lisbeth Salander and Daniel Craig as journalist Mikael Blomkvist. Co-written and directed by Fede Alvarez ("Don't Breathe"), the reboot is based on the fourth novel in the series, which was written by David Lagercrantz.

For this new installment, Claire Foy takes over the role of Salander, while Sverrir Gudnason stars as Blomkvist. The two join forces to battle a web of spies, cyber-criminals and corrupt government officials. The film also stars Lakeith Stanfield, Stephen Merchant, Sylvia Hoeks, Vicky Krieps and Claes Bang.

"The Girl in the Spider's Web" opened in theaters on October 26, 2018 in Sweden, and on November 9, 2018 in the U.S. The film has received mixed reviews from critics and it's expected to debut with around $8 million at the box-office from 2,929 theaters. That doesn't sound like much, but the film has a modest $43 million budget. Fincher's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" cost $90 million to produce and grossed $232.6 million worldwide.

Actor Michael Clarke Duncan passed away last night at age 54. His most memorable role was that of death-row inmate John Coffey in Frank Darabont's "The Green Mile", which earned him an Academy Award nomination. He also starred in movies like "Armageddon", "Daredevil", "Talladega Nights" and "The Whole Nine Yards". The actor was hospitalized in July following a heart attack and was receiving treatment for the past two months. Rest In Peace Michael Clarke Duncan.

Director Jose Padilha has picked up a new actor to play the villain in his "RoboCop" remake after Hugh Laurie quit the project. The villain, Omnicorp CEO Raymond Sellars, will be played by Michael Keaton ("Batman", "Beetlejuice"). "RoboCop" is scheduled for release on August 9, 2013. Here is what Padilha had to say about this new addition to his project :
"Michael is the final addition to the amazing cast we have assembled for this film and it is so great to have the last puzzle piece in place. It is thrilling that everything has come together to bring this innovative new vision of RoboCop to life. We’ve got a great script, a great cast, some killer ED-209’s and I can’t wait to get Alex Murphy back on the streets."

David Fincher is still trying to figure out a sequel to last year's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". While the adaptation of Steig Larsson's novel was successful, earning around $230 million worldwide, it sure wasn't the big hit that Sony was expecting. Fincher said that he's "trying to figure out a sequel to Dragon Tattoo" and that he wants to be able to make it his own. This is probably a reaction to the US version of the books coming out so soon after the swedish versions, which were pretty popular themselves and propelled actress Noomi Rapace onto the Hollywood scene.

"The Hobbit" has transformed from a duology to a trilogy. Director Peter Jackson and Warner Brothers figured out a way to make this happen, so now we have the titles and release dates for all three films. Here they are :
  • "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" - December 14th, 2012
  • "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" - December 13th, 2013
  • "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" - July 18th, 2014

Michael Douglas is set to play US President Ronald Reagan in director Mike Newell's political drama "Reykjavik", which is set in 1986 during the time Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev went to the Icelandic capital to work out a peace deal, on the backdrop of the Chernobyl disaster. The movie is produced by Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, Mark Sennet and Stewart Mackinnon and the script is written by Kevin Hood ("Becoming Jane"

This is a preview from the original score for David Fincher's "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo", composed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. The two previously worked with Fincher on "The Social Network" and won an Oscar for Best Original Score. This movie is based on the first novel of Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy and follows the Swedish series of movie adaptations that were very popular and spotlighted Noomi Rapace ("Prometheus", "Sherlock Holmes 2") in the leading role.

The American version, starring Rooney Mara, Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgard and Joely Richardson, is scheduled to open on December 21, 2011. The other two novels in the trilogy will also be adapted by Columbia Pictures at a later time. Also, check out dragontattoo.com for detailed character images and descriptions released by Columbia.

"The Feel Bad Movie of Christmas", more often known as "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. ramps up a gritty publicity campaign, befitting of a hard R-rated David Fincher movie. After the Red-Band trailer that debuted in theaters in May, which included some nudity and violence, the newest sample of gratuitous R-rated publicity is the teaser poster. On it you can see a topless Rooney Mara in full piercing gear and a grumpy Daniel Graig wrapping his arm around her in a protective manner.

The poster is available in two versions, one where the movie's release date covers the naughty bits and one where it's all fully revealed. Word on the web is that this is some kind of international one-sheet. Nevertheless, it's a bold campaign looking to capitalize on the controversial factor in order to get people to show up in theaters when the movie opens on December 21. Let's hope the movie is as ballsy as this poster seems to want to make us think it is. The Swedish adaptation of Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy had some hardcore stuff in it, so you can imagine that Fincher's version has some big shoes to fill.

Here's a better quality trailer for David Fincher's "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo", the adaptation/remake of Stieg Larsson's first novel in the Millennium trilogy and the 2009 Swedish movie. This is a green-band trailer, however, which means some meatier frames were cut out. For the lower quality red-band trailer click here.

The film looks like a return to Fincher's earlier works, like "Seven" or "The Game". It's going to be hard to stand up to comparisons, in the case of anyone who has seen the original adaptation, especially because even the Swedish trilogy felt like it borrowed a few pages from Fincher's visual playbook, and Rooney Mara is going to have a hard time living up to Noomi Rapace's legacy as Lisbeth Salander, the girl in the title. In a way, Mara looks a little too doll-faced for all that goth make-up, but early judgement is often wrong, so we'll wait and see. The movie opens on December 21, 2011. They sure have guts, releasing a hard-R movie right before Christmas.

The first trailer for David Fincher's remake of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", the first in Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy, is here in all its red-band glory. Normally, red-band means explicit content, but in this trailer, except for a couple of very brief nudity/sex shots, nothing really R-rated is evident, especially since there's no dialogue in this edit. The quality is rough, being recorded from a theater, but as soon as a better version is up, I will update this post.

We get a glimpse of the characters and action, which for those who have read the novel, or seen the Swedish original, will find very familiar. Rooney Mara's goth look seems to be very similar to that of Noomi Rapace's character. Journalist Mikael Blomkvist will be played by Daniel Craig. Other actors appearing in the movie are : Stellan Skarsgard, who is in fact Swedish, but never appeared in the original movie, Christopher Plummer, Joely Richardson, Goran Visnjic, Robin Wright, Embeth Davidtz and Julian Sands. The script is written by Steven Zaillian ("Schindler's List", "American Gangster", "Gangs of New York"). The movie opens this Christmas (21 December, 2011).

[UPDATE] - For a better quality version, albeit a green band trailer, without nudity or graphic violence, click here.
