Disney+ and Hulu have greenlit a reboot of Ryan Murphy's musical dramedy series "Glee". The original show aired for six seasons on Fox between 2009 and 2015, and it followed a group of ambitious misfits trying to escape the harsh realities of high school by joining a glee club headed by a passionate Spanish teacher. The series remains popular today, as does its music, which averages 4.1 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Lea Michele will reprise the role of Rachel Berry, a role that earned her an Emmy nomination and two Golden Globes. Heather Morris and Chord Overstreet also seemed to confirm via social media posts that they will return as Brittany Pierce and Sam Evans.

The original show's cast also included Cory Monteith, Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch, Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Amber Riley, Naya Rivera, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Harry Shum Jr., and Mark Salling.

Murphy recently confirmed that he's been "in touch with around 10 of the original cast members". He also added: "It's very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea." Murphy wrote the reboot's script alongside Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. 20th Television is the studio. The series will stream on Hulu and Disney+.

Sadly, three of the original cast members have died. Rivera died in 2020 at age 33, tragically drowning in a lake while saving her young son who had fallen into the water. Monteith died from an overdose in 2013, while the show was still on the air, and Salling died by suicide in 2018 after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography.
