CLUELESS Sequel Series Starring Alicia Silverstone Ordered at Paramount+

Paramount+ has greenlit a "Clueless" sequel series with Alicia Silverstone reprising the role of Cher Horowitz. Originally set up for development at Peacock in early 2025, it eventually received a six-episode order at Paramount+ and will be produced by Paramount-owned CBS Studios. Production is expected to begin in Los Angeles in 2027, and has submitted paperwork with the California Film Commission to receive state tax subsidies.

Here is the official synopsis: "Beloved Beverly Hills icon Cher Horowitz (Silverstone) has figured out a lot: She's successful in business and has mastered motherhood—that is, until her daughter's high school years, and Cher finds that parenting a teenager makes her feel 'clueless' all over again".

The new series is written and executive produced by Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and Jordan Weiss. Schwartz and Savage also produce via Fake Empire banner, alongside Silverstone, Amy Heckerling, the film's writer and director, and Robert Lawrence, the film's producer.

Loosely based on Jane Austen's "Emma", the original "Clueless" film was released in 1995, and it grossed $56.6 million in the US, and $88 million worldwide against a budget of $12 million. The cast also included Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, Dan Hedaya, Jeremy Sisto, Breckin Meyer and Wallace Shawn. The film was also recently added to the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

Here's what Jane Wiseman, head of Originals for Paramount+ had to say about the project: "'Clueless' is coming home. Thirty-one years ago, Alicia Silverstone's Cher Horowitz captivated audiences with her signature chic style, sharp wit and relentless optimism, helping make 'Clueless' a box office hit and instant pop culture classic. We're especially proud to be filming this much-anticipated series in Los Angeles, honoring its starring role in the original film while investing in the city’s exceptional talent and crews".

This is in fact not the first small-screen "Clueless" project. A TV adaptation of the 1995 film aired on ABC and then UPN from 1996 until 1999 for three seasons, with Rachel Blanchard playing Cher.

New on Blu-ray: GIRLS RULE COLLECTION (Clueless / Mean Girls / She's the Man)

BUY FROM AMAZON

Product Description: You want to see 3 great comedies where the leading roles are all by beautiful, powerful ladies? This 3pk contains Mean Girls (Lindsay Lohan), She's The Man (Amanda Bynes), and Clueless (Alicia Silverstone).

Mean Girls: After living in Africa with her zoologist parents, Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) must brave the wilds of high school—where she is taken under the wing of the popular girls, The Plastics, led by the cool and cruel Regina George (Rachel McAdams). What follows is a treasure trove of sharp, witty humor that defined a generation, inspired a hit Broadway musical, and popularized countless catchphrases. Co-Starring and written by Tina Fey, and featuring Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert, Lizzy Caplan, Daniel Franzese, and Amy Poehler, Mean Girls is nothing short of a pop culture phenomenon and an iconic classic.

Clueless: Jane Austen might never have imagined that her 1816 novel Emma could be turned into a fresh and satirical look at ultra-rich teenagers in a Beverly Hills high school. Cher (Alicia Silverstone) and Dionne (Stacey Dash), both named after 'great singers of the past that now do infomercials,' are pampered upper-class girls who care less about getting good grades than wearing the right clothes and being as popular as possible. But Cher, who lives with her tough yet warm-hearted lawyer dad (Dan Hedaya) and hunky, sensitive stepbrother (Paul Rudd), also has an innate urge to help those less fortunate — like the two introverted teachers she brings together ('negotiating' herself improved grades in the process) and new friend Tai (Brittany Murphy), who starts out a geek and ends up a Cher prodigy. Cher also possesses her own sensitive side, and she is looking for the perfect boyfriend, whom she ends up finding where she least expected.

She's the Man: Amanda Bynes proves that girls can do anything guys can do in She’s the Man. The laughs are non-stop when Viola (Bynes), disguised as her twin brother, Sebastian (James Kirk), joins the high school boys’ soccer team and helps win the big game while unexpectedly falling for Duke (Channing Tatum) the hot star forward. Viola discovers that dealing with high school politics and twisted love triangles is a major challenge when you’re a guy who’s really a girl! From the writers of Legally Blonde, She’s the Man features an ensemble cast of up and coming stars and hit songs from OK-Go, The Veronicas & the F-ups. It’s perfect for good-time fun!
