Melissa Fumero Joins Matthew Gray Gubler in CBS Series EINSTEIN
Melissa Fumero ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine") is set to join the cast of the new CBS series "Einstein", which will be a part of CBS's 2026-2027 broadcast season. Production begins this month.

The show stars Matthew Gray Gubler as Lewis Einstein, the brilliant but directionless great-grandson of Albert Einstein. He spends his days as a comfortably tenured professor until his bad-boy antics land him in trouble with the law, and he is pressed into service helping a local police detective (Fumero) solve her most puzzling cases. Lewis is a popular professor at Princeton … when he actually shows up for class. Irreverent and misguided, his genius and famous name weigh heavily on him, but using his gift to help solve homicides may — finally — offer his life some direction and purpose.

Fumero's character, Teri, is a Detective Inspector for the New Jersey State Police. Sharp and disciplined, Teri demands a lot from her colleagues and even more from herself, and feels conflicted about working with Professor Einstein. Rosa Salazar was originally cast in the role, but had to exit due to scheduling conflicts after CBS decided to delay the series until the 2026-27 season. The two sides parted ways by mutual agreement.

Executive producers include Andy Breckman, Randy Zisk, Michael Rauch, Tariq Jalil, Rose Hughes, Rodrigo Herrera Ibarguengoytia and Laura Beetz. Gubler also serves as a producer. CBS Studios is the studio.

Fumero can next be seen in the upcoming revenge thriller "Red Dirt", which is currently in pre-production.

Matthew Gray Gubler To Star In Crimina Minds Evolution

Matthew Gray Gubler will return as Dr. Spencer Reid for the new season of the procedural series "Criminal Minds: Evolution". It has been frequently mentioned in the sequel series that Reid has been away from the BAU for a so-called special assignment. Gubler will appear in part of one episode in season three. The storyline for Gubler's appearance is under wraps.

Gubler signed on to star in the original "Criminal Minds" series soon after graduating from college, and it was his first TV role. Along with A.J. Cook, Gubler was the only full-time original cast member to stay for the show's entire 15-season run, which ended in 2020. He also directed 12 episodes.

Unfortunately, Gubler was the only "Criminal Minds" veteran who did not return for the 2022 sequel "Criminal Minds: Evolution" on Paramount+. Both Gubler and showrunner Erica Messer have said in interviews that they've tried to make it happen but the scheduling never worked out.

Gubler is also set to play the title role and produce the CBS Studios pilot "Einstein" (working title), from the "Monk" team of creator/executive producer Andy Breckman and director/executive producer Randy Zisk.

Matthew Gray Gubler to Star in EINSTEIN Pilot for CBS

"Criminal Minds" star Matthew Gray Gubler is set to make his return to CBS with a new crime drama procedural with the working title "Einstein". Gubler is set to play the title role in the CBS Studios pilot, which hails from "Monk" creator/executive producer Andy Breckman and director/executive producer Randy Zisk.

Like "Monk", as well as the German series on which "Einstein" is based, the CBS procedural is a drama with comedic undertones. In the show, the great grandson of Albert Einstein (Gubler), brilliant but directionless, spends his days as a comfortably tenured professor until his bad-boy antics land him in trouble with the law and he is pressed into service helping a local police detective solve her most puzzling cases.

Gubler's Lew Einstein is a popular professor at Princeton … when he actually shows up for class. Irreverent and misguided, Lew's genius and famous name weighs heavily on him, but using his gift to help solve homicides may — finally– offer his life some direction and purpose.

Breckman wrote the "Einstein" pilot, and Zisk will direct it. Both will executive produce alongside Tariq Jalil and Rose Hughes, Rodrigo Herrera Ibarguengoytia and Laura Beetz for Seven One Studios International. Gubler is also a producer.

This marks Gubler’s first TV role since his recurring stint on the Hulu comedy series "Dollface", which he took on as "Criminal Minds" was coming to an end. He also is a children's book author and illustrator, with his second book, "The Little Kid with the Big Green Hand", published last year.

criminal-minds-season-12-trailer-images-and-poster

The long-running series "Criminal Minds" has reached its twelfth season of serial killer profiling, however, the Behavioral Analysis Unit has lost a few members of their outfit, namely veteran agents Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) and Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore). While Moore left during Season 11 and is replaced by Adam Rodriguez, Gibson was involved in an on-set incident that cost him his job. The actor will star in the first two episodes of the new season, but after that there's now word on who will lead the BAU team.

Besides Aisha Tyler getting bumped to series regular, the show's creative forces are also bringing back Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss, a popular character who departed the series at the end of Season 7 back in 2012. The cast also includes Matthew Gray Gubler, Kirsten Vangsness, A.J. Cook and Joe Mantegna.

"Criminal Minds" Season 12 premieres on September 28th.
