Brad Pitt is set to return for the long-awaited "World War Z" sequel, which is being developed at Paramount. The new installment will be directed by Oscar-nominated "All Quiet on the Western Front" and "Conclave" helmer Edward Berger, who recently directed Pitt in A24's "The Riders". The screenplay is written by Dennis Kelly ("Utopia", "The Third Day", "Black Sea").
Plot details for the sequel are being kept under wraps. Directed by Marc Forster, 2013's "World War Z" was loosely based on Max Brooks' bestselling 2006 novel "World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War". It grossed $540.4 million at the global box office.
At CinemaCon in April, Paramount announced that a sequel was finally in active development. Throughout the years there have beeen many attempts to develop a sequel, including a version directed by David Fincher, which was scrapped in 2019.
The sequel will be produced by Berger alongside Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner via Plan B.
Pitt ca next be seen in David Ayer's survival thriller "Heart of the Beast", Netflix's "The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth" directed by Fincher from a screenplay by Quentin Tarantino, and Berger's "The Riders", which wrapped filming earlier this year and is currently in post-production.
