Samara Weaving To Star As Emma Frost In Marvel's X-MEN Movie

There is a lot of anticipation surrounding the "X-Men" franchise now that it's back in Marvel's hands after Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox and its library in 2019. Marvel Studios is gearing up for an upcoming "X-Men" movie that will be directed by Jack Schreier ("Thunderbolts") from a script by Lee Sung Jin ("Beef") and Joanna Calo ("The Bear"), and while the studio isn't revealing any details at this point, one casting detail has been unveiled.

Samara Weaving ("Ready or Not", "Over Your Dead Body") has been cast as Emma Frost. According to sources, Schreier and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige landed on the actress after meeting with a number of candidates. Only a few actors were selected for a final round of testing right after July 4th, and it seems Weaving won out. Marvel did not officially confirm.

Emma Frost is a telepathic mutant created by writer Chris Claremont and artist/co-writer John Byrne, who first appeared in "The Uncanny X-Men" #129 in January 1980. The character evolved over the years from a supervillain and foe of the X-Men to becoming a superhero and one of the team's most central members and leaders. On the big screen, Emma Frost was previously played by January Jones in 2011's "X-Men: First Class".

Formerly owned by 20th Cenrury Fox, the "X-Men" cinematic franchise includes thirteen live-action films released between 2000 and 2020, which grossed a combined $6 billion worldwide.

Ryan Gosling To Play Ghost Rider In New Marvel Movie

Ryan Gosling is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ghost Rider. The announcement was made by Marvel Studios executive Kevin Feige at the San Diego Comic Con. The standalone film will be directed by Shawn Levy ("Star Wars: Starfighter", "Deadpool & Wolverine") from a script by Jonathan Tropper ("Star Wars: Starfigher", "Banshee"), and will be released in 2028.

Here's what Levy had to say while on stage at Hall H: "I'm having the greatest flashback vibes here, because I was here two years ago when we showed 'Deadpool & Wolverine'. I'll never forget that night, because I was introduced to the greatest fans. Gosling is the absolute shit. I say that with tremendous respect. We spent a lot of time last year making 'Starfighter', and the opportunity as Ryan started talking about this character, I was like, 'Bro, let's ride'. We'll see you in 2028!"

Gosling added: "Wow, is this really happening? As you know, this is a character I've wanted to play for a very long time".

Ghost Rider was previously played by Nicolas Cage in two Sony movies, after which the rights to the character reverted to Marvel Studios, who then rebooted the character with Gabriel Luna in the ABC series "Agents of SHIELD".

Gosling can next be seen in "Star Wars: Starfighter", which is also directed by Levy and written by Tropper. The film co-stars Mia Goth, Amy Adams, Matt Smith and Aaron Pierre. The release date has been set for May 28, 2027.

Angelina Jolie in Talks For Marvel's THE ETERNALS

Angelina Jolie is reportedly in talks to make her superhero debut in Marvel's "The Eternals". The MCU film will focus on the titular group of super-powered near-immortal human beings genetically engineered by cosmic beings known as the Celestials a million years ago. The Celestials also created the villainous Deviants, and the two groups have fought each other throughout history. The protagonist of the story will be the female Eternal known as Sersi.

"The Rider" helmer Chloe Zhao is set to direct the film from a screenplay penned by Matthew and Ryan Firpo ("Ruin"). Jolie's role is unknown at this time. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige will produce, and he has recently announced that they have started working on what films will be part of the post-phase 3 films, although it will probably be a while before official announcements will be made.

Jolie also stars in Disney's upcoming sequel "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil", which will be released on October 18, 2019.

Official GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 Title Revealed

The official title for Marvel's sequel to "Guardians of the Galaxy" has been revealed. In keeping with the film's tone, the title will be "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2", which was probably inspired, in part, by Star-Lord's mix tape, and the movie's soundtrack, which was called "Awesome Mix Vol. 1". The announcement was a bit of a slip up from producer Kevin Feige in an interview in which he said:

"We start shooting Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 in February-March 2016."

Later, the film's director, James Gunn, tweeted a confirmation that the title will indeed be "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2":

Yes, the official title for the @Guardians sequel is GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2. Nice detective work, @colliderfrosty, etc! You got us!

Followed by another tweet to assuage the doubts of skeptic fans:

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" opens in theaters on May 5, 2017.

Martin Freeman Joins CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

Martin Freeman to star in Captain America: Civil War

"Sherlock" and "The Hobbit" star Martin Freeman has joined the cast of Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War". The Phase 3 movie will be directed by "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" helmers Joe and Anthony Russo. Here's what producer Kevin Feige had to say about casting Freeman:

"From his roles as Bilbo Baggins and Doctor Watson to Tim in 'The Office,' Martin's range from the dramatic to the comedic has consistently impressed us. We couldn't be more honored or excited to have such a talented actor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe."

The film's huge ensemble also includes Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Elizabeth Olsen, Chadwick Boseman and Daniel Bruhl. Bruhl has been confirmed as the film's villain, Baron von Zemo. Spider-Man is also expected to appear in the movie, but the role has yet to be cast. Filming is underway in Atlanta.

Benedict Cumberbatch To Play Doctor Strange

In the past weeks there were many rumors regarding who would star in the upcoming "Doctor Strange" movie. At first there was Joaquin Phoenix, who entered negotiations but walked away for unknown reasons. Then the rumor mill began to buzz, spewing out names like Keanu Reeves, Justin Theroux, Tom Hardy, Johnny Depp and Jared Leto.

Now it appears that Benedict Cumberbatch ("Star Trek Into Darkness") will play Marvel's Doctor Strange. Although it's far from being a done deal, the actor will begin negotiations with the studio. Produced by Kevin Feige, the film will be directed by Scott Derrickson ("The Exorcism of Emily Rose") from a script by Jon Spaihts ("Prometheus"). The release date is expected to be set sometime in Summer 2016.

The Doctor Strange comics first came out in the early 1960s. The protagonist is a former neurosurgeon who serves as a protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats.
