Himes Patel Danielle Deadwyler The X Files Reboot

Himesh Patel ("The Odyssey", "Yesterday") and Danielle Deadwyler ("Till", "The Woman in the Yard") have signed on to star as the leads in Hulu's upcoming reboot of the iconic TV series "The X-Files". The new show has received a pilot greenlight at the streamer and is being developed by Onyx Collective and 20th Television. Jennifer Yale will serve as showrunner.

Deadwyler and Patel will be playing new original characters in the series. The pilot will be written and directed by Oscar-winning "Sinners" filmmaker Ryan Coogler. The plot will revolve around two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents, played by Deadwyler and Patel, who form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.

Original "X-Files" creator Chris Carter will executive produce alongside Yale, Coogler, Sev Ohanian, Simone Harris and Zinzi Coogler. The pilot is being cast by "Sinners" casting director Francine Maisler. Proximity Media's director of development Dezi Gallegos will oversee the pilot.

Patel can next be seen in Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated epic "The Odyssey", which opens in theaters on July 17, 2026. He will also reprise his role as Dr. Watson in "Enola Holmes 3" opposite Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter, and Louis Partridge. He also stars in the comedy series "Bait" alongside Riz Ahmed.

The X-Files Revival Trailer and Pictures

The first teaser trailer and images for the upcoming "The X-Files" revival series have been released. The six-episode limited series will bring back David Duchovny as Mulder and Gillian Anderson as Scully as they once again embark on a dark journey into the unknown. Other X-Files veterans that will reprise their roles are Mitch Pileggi as Skinner and William B. Davis as the Smoking Mann.

They will be joined by Annet Mehendru, Joel McHale, Annabeth Gish and Nicholas Lea. The plot is unknown at this time, but the show's creator Chris Carter talked a bit about the political context of the series and how it's going to be a brand new story:
"The X-Files ended right after 9/11 ... A lot has happened since then. A lot of rollback of rights and liberties in the name of our protection. We’re being spied on now, we’re being lied to — all things that, for me, remind me of when I grew up, which was right around Watergate. I think we’re in similar and much more dire times right now. We’re not going to reboot any of the old favorites, although it was something we all thought about…These are all brand new stories. We hope to scare you in brand new ways."
"The X-Files" revival series will premiere on Sunday, January 24th, 2016, followed by the second episode on January 25th.

The X-Files returns as limited series in 2016
"The X-Files" are making a comeback on the small screen. The sci-fi series will return for a limited six-episode season sometime next year and it will feature series veterans David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. The episodes will be helmed by creator Chris Carter, but there are no plot details available at this point except that each episode will be a standalone case.

Production is set to begin in summer 2015 and it will film in Vancouver. Carter said that he thinks of it as "a 13-year commercial break" and that "the good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories."

Duchovny spoke about the upcoming series in a recent interview and here's what he had to say:
"The time is right because we got our [act] together to do it. In terms of culturally or what people want to see, I don’t know. I imagine if we waited too much longer people would eventually lose interest. It’s different from something like “Star Trek,” which started out campy and then, especially with the J.J. Abrams stuff, became legit somehow. You might argue with me, but I always felt like we were legit. We’re still trying to do the same show. It’s not like were trying to make it 2.0, or whatever the .0 is now. 3.0. We’re gonna make the same show. But it’ll be interesting because Gillian and I are older. I don’t want to act like it’s 20 years ago."
