GROWN UPS 3 Officially in the Works at Netflix With Adam Sandler

The Adam Sandler sequel "Grown Ups 3" has been confirmed to be in development at Netflix. The project was previously teased by David Spade and Kevin James, but this announcement marks the first official acknowledgement that the threequel is indeed being developed by the streamer.

While the cast has not been officially confirmed, it has been rumored that Sandler, Spade, James, Chris Rock and Rob Schneider will return. The third installment will be directed by "Happy Gilmore 2" and "Murder Mystery" helmer Kyle Newacheck from a screenplay co-written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy.

The original "Grown Ups" was released in 2010 and grossed $271 million worldwide, becoming Sandler's highest-grossing live-action movie. The first sequel opened in theaters in 2013 and raked in $247 million worldwide. The cast also included Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, Maya Rudolph, Joyce Van Patten, Colin Quinn, Steve Buscemi and Tim Meadows.

The film is produced by Sandler alongside his wife Jackie Sandler, Jack Giarraputo and Herlihy. Kevin Grady and Judit Maull executive produce. Sandler's exclusive partnership with Netflix, which started in 2014, has been extended into 2026.

2014 Razzie Awards Nominations Announced

Today, the infamous Razzie awards announced the nominations for the Worst of the Worst of 2013. The top nominees this year include "Movie 43", "Grown Ups 2", "A Madea Christmas" and "After Earth" with 6 nods each, and "The Lone Ranger" with five noms. Now, maybe I have poor taste in movies, but I really didn't think "The Lone Ranger" was Razzies material. Sure, maybe a Worst Screenplay nomination would have sufficed, but Worst Picture and Director ? Meanwhile, several really bad movies of 2013 got snubbed, if one could say so, including the undead-awful "R.I.P.D." and the moronic "Paranoia", not to mention at least one or two horror films released last year. Even "After Earth" didn't feel all that bad, especially compared to Shyamalan's "The Last Airbender". However, the director's bad reputation and the Smith family duo pairing probably doomed a movie that wasn't necessarily an earth-shattering stinker.

In the acting categories we find Lindsay Lohan, Naomi Watts, Selena Gomez, Halle Berry, Lady Gaga, Salma Hayek, Johnny Depp, Chris Brown, Adam Sandler, Tyler Perry, Ashton Kutcher and Sylvester Stallone. "The Hangover Part III" and "The Smurfs 2" are also on the list in the Worst Remake Rip-Off or Sequel category.

Box-Office Report: GROWN UPS 2 and PACIFIC RIM

Although it didn't seem likely, the Adam Sandler comedy "Grown Ups 2" managed to overtake Guillermo del Toro's highly publicized sci-fi actioner "Pacific Rim" at the box-office. The sequel was universally panned by critics, but managed to open at #2 with $42M. The giant robots versus giant monsters flick only managed to place third with $38M despite encouraging Thursday midnight showings of about $3.6M. "Pacific Rim" is in a bit of tough spot considering its $190M budget. "Grown Ups 2" also cost quite a bit, aprox. $80M, but it's off to a good start, a bit better than the first film's $40M opening weekend. And what's more important, the first film went on to gross $162M domestically and $271M worldwide.

Now, to return to what's really important: the top spot. The highest grossing film this weekend is the animated sequel "Despicable Me 2", which earned $44.7M in the current three-day timeframe, which adds up to a total of $229M domestically and $472M worldwide (in 12 days). The sequel is definitely going to overtake the first film, which grossed $251M domestically and $543M worldwide (in 196 days).

Meanwhile, the Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy comedy "The Heat" continues to do good business, grossing $14M this weekend and adding up to a total of $112M. Disney's misfire "The Lone Ranger" continues to drop at an alarming rate, losing over 60% of its initial opening weekend (down to $11M). The Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer starrer has only managed to rake in $119M worldwide in 12 days versus a bloated $215M budget. Joining Disney in the financial heartache is Roland Emmerich's action thriller "White House Down" which never recovered from an equally catastrophic opening weekend. The Channing Tatum & Jamie Foxx team-up only managed to gross $82M worldwide in 17 days versus a $150M budget. By comparison, the latter might actually be less of a disaster than Disney's flop.

A new international trailer for the comedy "Grown Ups 2" has been released. The cast of the first film is back, including Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, Maya Rudolph, Steve Buscemi and David Spade, and the new additions include Andy Samberg, Taylor Lautner, Shaquille O’Neal and Milo Ventimiglia. It looks like this sequel will crank up the silliness to new levels. I didn't find the first film to be offensively bad, but this one looks a definitive Razzies champ. "Grown Ups 2" opens on July 12, 2013.

The teaser trailer for the comedy "Grown Ups 2" has been released. Despite the dumb pseudo-outrageous jokes that come packaged with all of Adam Sandler's movies, I actually had fun with the first "Grown Ups". From this trailer, I think I might be able to enjoy the sequel as well. The first film's cast is back, including Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, Maya Rudolph, Steve Buscemi and David Spade, and will be joined by Andy Samberg, Taylor Lautner, Shaquille O’Neal and Milo Ventimiglia. The plot ? Does it really matter what it's about ? Not really. "Grown Ups 2" opens on July 12, 2013.
