Sydney Sweeney to Star in Retelling of SLEEPY HOLLOW
Sony Pictures has landed the new reimagining of "Sleepy Hollow", which is simply titled "Hollow", in a competitive bidding war. Based on Lindsey Anderson Beer's debut novel, the film will be directed, produced and adapted by Beer, and it stars Sydney Sweeney ("Euphoria", "The Housemaid"). Beer also wrote and directed 2023's "Pet Sematary: Bloodlines" and wrote and executive produced "Sierra Burgess Is a Loser".

Beer's novel is a reimagining of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", told through the perspective of Katrina Van Tassel. Reframing one of literature's most iconic heroines, the novel positions Van Tassel not as a romantic prize but as the central figure in a dangerous mystery and seductive supernatural love triangle. The story blends gothic atmosphere, psychological intrigue and erotic thriller elements into a contemporary, high-concept reinvention.

The novel will be published by Putnam, an imprint of Penguin Random House, in fall 2027. Translation rights to the book have sold around the world, with record offers from some territories, which is a rare feat for a novel at launch, especially a debut.

Margot Robbie's LuckyChap and Sweeney's Honey Trap banner are also producing. This is Honey Trap's first time producing a feature film, as the newly launched company recently inked a first-look deal with Sony Pictures. Alexandra Banks and Spencer Walken will executive produce for Beer's Lab Brew banner.

Sydney Sweeney Sequel Housemaids Secret Release Date

Not unexpectedly, Lionsgate is moving forward with a sequel to last year's R-rated Christmas sleeper hit "The Housemaid". The new installment will be titled "The Housemaid's Secret" and will be released in theaters on December 17, 2027. Sydney Sweeney is returning for the sequel alongside Michele Morrone, who also appeared in the first film. Kirsten Dunst is joining the cast.

Based on Freida McFadden's bestselling novel, the sequel picks up as Sweeney’s Millie takes a job keeping house for a woman she's never allowed to see, only to discover the truth behind the locked door that threatens to expose secrets far darker than her own. The sequel will begin production later this year with Paul Feig returning to direct, and Rebecca Sonnenshine also back as the writer.

Producers will include Hidden Pictures' Todd Lieberman, Feig and Laura Fischer via Pretty Dangerous Pictures, and Sweeney through her Fifty-Fifty Films banner. Carly Elter, who oversaw the first movie for Hidden Pictures, is returning as executive producer. Alex Young of Hidden Pictures will also executive produce. Fifty Fifty's Kaylee McGregor will co-produce. Chelsea Kujawa and Maria Ascanio are overseeing the project for Lionsgate.

Lionsgate is definitely confident about this one, since it's December 2027 release date will pit it against "Avengers: Secret Wars" and "Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum". The first film opened on December 19, 2025, going up against "Avatar: Fire and Ash", "The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants" and "David". It opened in third place with only $19 million, but continued to perform well week after week. It went on to gross $126 million in North America and another $271.8 million from foreign markets. That's a total gross of $398.2 million worldwide against a modest $35 million budget.

The studio is planning to turn "The Housemaid" into a major franchise, and hopes to adapt more of McFadden's novels, including a third book titled "The Housemaid Is Watching".

Michael Bay and Sydney Sweeney Join Forces On OUTRUN Video Game Adaptation
Video game adaptations are currently on a roll with "A Minecraft Movie" and "The Last of Us" dominating headlines, so here's another one, although one that feels a little bit like scraping the bottom of the barrel. It has been reported that Universal is looking to adapt the iconic Sega arcade video game "OutRun" with Michael Bay attached to direct and Sydney Sweeney set to produce. Sweeney doesn't seem to be starring in it, but perhaps official casting announcements will be made further down the line.

The script will be penned by Jayson Rothwell ("Polar", "Malice in Wonderland"), but plot details are unknonw at this point. Sega's "OutRun" pioneered a genre of arcade driving games and spawned the "outrun" electronic music subgenre that focuses on synthesizers and 1980's themes. The franchise has spawned numerous installments, including home console versions, and it continues to be one of Sega's flagship series.

Bay will produce alongside partner Brad Fuller through their Platinum Dunes banner, which has a first-look deal with the studio. Toru Nakahara ("Sonic the Hedgehog" 1-3, "Knuckles", "Golden Axe") will also produce for Sega and Shuji Utsumi (president/COO of SEGA Corp.) will oversee the project on behalf of Sega.

Sweeney can next be seen in the upcoming Christy Martin biopic, which she also produces.
