Justice Smith And Charlie Gillespie Join Heated Rivalry Season 2

Justice Smith ("I Saw the TV Glow", "Now You See Me: Now You Don't") and Charlie Gillespie ("One Night Only", "Splitsville") will join the second season of the Crave Original series "Heated Rivalry". The new season is confirmed to premiere in Spring 2027. Production on Season 2 is currently underway in Canada.

Smith and Gillespie will play Harris Drover and Troy Barrett, respectively, the couple at the center of "Role Model", the fifth book in Rachel Reid's bestselling "Game Changers" series, on which the show is based. Troy Barrett is a hockey player on Ilya Rozanov’s team with a history of bullying while Harris Drover is the team's cheerful social media manager.

In Season 1, Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie) are bound by ambition, rivalry and a magnetic pull neither of them fully understood. What began as a secret fling between two fresh-faced rookies evolved into a years-long journey of love, denial, and self-discovery.

The first season adapted the second book, titled "Heated Rivalry", while also including elements from the first book, "Game Changer". "Heated Rivalry" creator Jacob Tierney had said that Season 2 will continue Shane and Ilya's story by following the plot of the sixth book, "The Long Game", while also introducing the new couple from "Role Model".

Tierney and Brendan Brady had this to say about the new characters: "Rachel Reid has given us two beautifully layered characters in Harris and Troy who you can't help but root for. From the start of the casting process, we knew we were looking for actors who could create something truly special together and bring that same depth and heart to the screen. Justice and Charlie do exactly that. They immediately connected with the vulnerability and resilience at the core of these characters, bringing an instinctive understanding of who Harris and Troy are".

Tierney writes, director, and executive produces. Brady and Jayme Alter Wilson serve as executive producers. Lori Fischburg and Liane Cunje are producers, with Reid as consulting producer. Mike Goldbach serves as co-writer on Season 2.

"Heated Rivalry" is produced by Accent Aigu Entertainment in association with Bell Media's Crave, and distributed internationally by Sphere Abacus, a Bell Media company. It is available in more than 130 countries.

Hudson Williams Joins Drama Series YAGA
Hudson Williams ("Heated Rivalry") has signed on to star in Crave's new eight-episode drama series titled "Yaga". The show is based on the play by Kat Sandler, who also serves as writer and showrunner, and it reimagines the Slavic folk tale of Baba Yaga, which is usually depicted as a witch, but depending on the story, she can be either a force of evil, or good. The series has been described as a contemporary mystery thriller.

"Yaga" follows Rapp (Noah Reid), a private investigator who arrives in a small coastal town to investigate the disappearance of a young heir to a powerful fishery, Henry Park (Hudson Williams). He finds himself at odds with an apprehensive local detective, Carson (Clark Backo); a charismatic university professor with a taste for younger men, Katherine (Carrie-Anne Moss); and a labyrinth of enigmatic suspects, secret lives and ancient magic.

The cast also includes Sheila McCarthy, Megan Follows, Ezra Franky, Patrick Gilmore, Katharine Isabelle, Hiro Kanagawa, Emilija Baranac, Georgia Acken, Anisa Harris and Sam Krochmal.

"Yaga" is set to debut on AMC+ later this year, after the AMC platform nabbed exclusive US streaming rights to the show in a competitive situation. Here's what Courtney Thomasma, EVP of Linear & Streaming Products for AMC Global Media had to say: "Yaga is the kind of bold, genre-bending storytelling that we look for on AMC+ to complement our core franchises and super-serve our passionate and discerning fanbases. Kat Sandler's unique creative vision brings a fresh twist to the classic whodunit – weaving together elements of witchcraft, horror and mystery to deliver a captivating, character-driven story that viewers won’t want to miss".

The series is produced by Blink49 Studios and Front Street Pictures in partnership with Crave. David Frazee and Rachel Talalay are set to direct. The series is executive produced by Mackenzie Donaldson, Andrew Miller and Moss. Charles Cooper will produce. "Yaga" is distributed globally by Sphere Abacus, a Bell Media company.

Dylan Obrien And Hudson Williams To Star In Thriller Apparatus

Dylan O'Brien ("Twinless", "Send Help") and Hudson Williams ("Heated Rivalry") are set to star in the darkly comedic thriller "Apparatus", which marks the feature directorial debut of Canadian actress Sofia Banzhaf from a script she co-wrote alongside Grayson Moore ("Cardinals"). Banzhaf previously directed the short film "I Am in the World as Free and Slender as a Deer on a Plain", which premiered at TIFF and made the festival's Top 10 list for shorts.

The film follows struggling young rideshare driver Tyler (Williams) as he falls under the influence of a self-styled entrepreneur, JP (O'Brien), who offers him a future in his handheld-massager business. But what appears to be a dream opportunity unravels as JP pulls Tyler into a violent downward spiral.

Banzhaf & Moore also produce alongside Julie Baldassi of Younger Daughter Films ("Darkest Miriam"), Daniel Bekerman of Scythia Films ("The Apprentice"), and Brian Robertson. Sam Sutcliffe and Jasmin Karibzhanova of Ursa Major Films are co-financing alongside Nicholas Chepesiuk of Gabardine, Telefilm Canada and Mongrel Media, with WME Independent and CAA Media Finance co-repping the film for sales.

O'Brien can next be seen starring alongside Ruth Madeley and Mark Ruffalo in Apple's "Being Heumann" from Sian Heder ("CODA"). Williams can also be seen in Netflix's FTX series "The Altruists", and the second season of "Heated Rivalry", which premieres next year in April.
