Camila Morrone & Danny Ramirez Join MIAMI VICE '85

Camila Morrone And Danny Ramirez Join Miami Vice 85

Emmy nominee Camila Morrone ("Daisy Jones & The Six", "Something Very Bad is Going to Happen") and Danny Ramirez ("Top Gun: Maverick") are set to co-star opposite Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler in "Miami Vice '85". The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski ("Top Gun: Maverick", "F1") from a script by Dan Gilroy ("Nightcrawler") and an earlier draft by Eric Warren Singer ("American Hustle"), based on the Emmy-winning 1980s crime drama series created by Anthony Yerkovich and executive produced by Michael Mann ("Heat").

The cast also includes Alden Ehrenreich and Whitney Peak. No character details are available, but it has been reported that Morrone received the offer to star in the film immediately after a final chemistry test with Butler.

"Miami Vice '85" explores the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami in an all-new version of Miami Vice, inspired by the pilot episode of the landmark Universal Television series that influenced culture and set the style of everything from fashion to filmmaking.

Production is set to begin this year, and the film will be shot in IMAX. The release date has been set for May 19, 2028.

Dylan Clark will produce via Dylan Clark Productions, alongside Kosinski and Michael Mann. EVP Production Development Sara Scott and Creative Executive of Production Development Christina Hoffrogge will oversee the project for the studio.

Morrone is also set to lead Netflix’s series adaptation of "The Age of Innocence". She can next be seen in the drama "Gonzo Girl" directed by Patricia Arquette and co-starring Willem Dafoe.

Ramirez recently wrapped production on Todd Haynes' new film "De Noche", which also stars Pedro Pascal. He can be seen next in Marvel's "Avengers: Doomsday".

Alden Ehrenreich ("Weapons", "Oppenheimer") has joined the cast of Universal Pictures' "Miami Vice '85", a reimagining of the classic 1980s crime drama series. The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski ("Top Gun: Maverick", "F1") from a script by Dan Gilroy ("Nightcrawler") based on characters created by Anthony Yerkovich. Eric Warren Singer ("Top Gun: Maverick") wrote an earlier draft of the screenplay.

The film explores the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami in an all-new version of "Miami Vice", inspired by the pilot episode of the landmark Universal Television series that influenced culture and set the style of everything from fashion to filmmaking. Bringing current technological expertise to the sights and sounds of the series, "Miami Vice '85" will be filmed for IMAX, and is expected to begin production this year. The release date has been set for May 19, 2028.

Dylan Clark will produce via Dylan Clark Productions, alongside Kosinski and Michael Mann. EVP Production Development Sara Scott and Creative Executive of Production Development Christina Hoffrogge will oversee the project for the studio.

This year, Ehrenreich won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his Broadway debut as Max in the revival of Gina Gionfriddo's dark comedy "Becky Shaw". He can next be seen opposite Helen Mirren in Anton Corbijn's "A Talent for Murder", which premieres at the 2026 Toronto Film Festival. He will also star opposite Daisy Ridley in the romantic comedy "The Last Resort".

Universal Pictures announced a few major updates regarding their upcoming "Miami Vice" big screen reboot. First of all, the film has a new title, which is "Miami Vice '85". Secondly, it has now been officially confirmed that Oscar winner Michael B. Jordan ("Sinners") and Oscar nominee Austin Butler ("Elvis") are set to star, as the two actors closed their respective deals with the studio.

The reboot, which is directed by Joseph Kosinski ("Top Gun: Maverick", "F1") from a script by Oscar nominee Dan Gilroy ("Nightcrawler"), will explore the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami in an all-new version inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark Universal Television series that influenced culture and set the style in everything from fashion to filmmaking.

Jordan and Butler will star as Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs, and James "Sonny" Crockett, characters portrayed by Philip Michael Thomas and Don Johnson in the classic 1980s TV series, and by Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell in Michael Mann's 2006 big-screen adaptation. Production starts later this year, and the film will be shot for IMAX. The release date has been set for August 6, 2027.

"Miami Vice '85" will be produced by Dylan Clark via his Dylan Clark Productions and Kosinski. Gilroy is writing the script, based on characters created by Anthony Yerkovich from the series executive produced by Yerkovich and Michael Mann. Eric Warren Singer wrote an earlier draft of the screenplay. EVP Production Development Sara Scott and Creative Executive of Production Development Christina Hoffrogge will oversee the project for Universal.

Jordan will next direct, star in and produce Amazon MGM Studios' remake of "The Thomas Crown Affair", which will be released in theaters on March 5, 2027. Butler's next film is the A24 crime thriller "Enemies", in which he stars opposite Jeremy Allen White.

Austin Butler in Early Talks to Join Michael B. Jordan in MIAMI VICE Reboot

Austin Butler ("Elvis", "Dune: Part Two") is in early negotiations to join Universal's upcoming "Miami Vice" reboot directed by Joseph Kosinski ("Top Gun: Maverick", "F1"). If the deal goes through, Butler would play James "Sonny" Crockett, the role previously played by Don Johnson in the classic 1980s TV series. Michael B. Jordan is also in early talks to star as Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs, portrayed by Philip Michael Thomas in the show.

The film is set to start filming later in 2026, and is scheduled for release on August 6, 2027. Kosinski will direct from a recent draft of the script penned by Dan Gilroy ("Nightcrawler", "Andor"). Eric Warren Singer ("Top Gun: Maverick", "American Hustle") penned the first draft. Dylan Clark and Kosinski serve as producers

Kosinski's reboot will explore the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami, inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the NBC series created by Anthony Yerkovich and executive produced by Michael Mann. The show was previously adapted for the big screen in a 2006 film of the same name directed by Mann, which starred Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx in the lead roles.

MIAMI VICE Remake In The Works With TOP GUN: MAVERICK Director Joseph Kosinski

Universal Pictures is currently working on a "Miami Vice" remake based on the iconic 1980s NBC series. Joseph Kosinski ("Top Gun: Maverick") is set to direct while "Nightcrawler" writer/director Dan Gilroy is rewriting a first draft script by Eric Warren Singer ("American Hustle", "Only the Brave"). Singer was unavailable to continue because he moved to the "Best of Enemies" project he sold to Amazon with Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper attached.

The origial series starred Don Johnson as James "Sonny" Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs, two undercover detectives taking down drug dealers in Miami, Florida. The series ran for five seasons on NBC between 1984 and 1989. A previous big screen adaptation was attempted in 2006 by Michael Mann, who also produced the show. The film starred Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell, but flopped in its theatrical run grossing $165 million against a $135 million budget.

Casting has yet to be announced. In addition to directing, Kosinski will produce through his company, Monolith. Dylan Clark, who worked with Kosinski on 2016's "Oblivion" starring Tom Cruise will also serve as a producer through Dylan Clark Productions. Universal’s executive VP of production development Sara Scott will oversee production on behalf of the studio.

In the meantime, Kosinski's racing drama "F1" starring Brad Pitt will open in theaters on June 27, 2025. He's expected next to reteam with producer Jerry Bruckheimer for an untitled UFO project at Apple.

TOP GUN 3 In The Works At Paramount

Just days after Tom Cruise announced that he had signed a non-exclusive deal to develop franchises and original movies for Warner Bros, Paramount has tapped "Top Gun: Maverick" co-writer Ehren Kruger to write a sequel to the 2022 blockbuster. The deal between Cruise and Warner still allows the actor to work for other companies like Paramount and Universal.

Director Joseph Kosinski will return to helm the threequel. Also returning are producers Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison. "Top Gun 3" will probably also feature Cruise's younger co-stars Miles Teller and Glen Powell, who are expected to reprise their roles. "Top Gun: Maverick" was a huge hit for Paramount, grossing nearly $1.5 billion worldwide.

Cruise is currently working on a film directed by Doug Liman that will shoot at the International Space Station, and the eighth "Mission: Impossible" installment, which opens in theaters on May 2025.

DGA Awards 2023 Nominations (Feature Film)

The feature film nominations for the 2023 Directors Guild of America awards have been announced. The contenders and Oscar hopefuls this year are Todd Field for "Tar", Joseph Kosinski for "Top Gun: Maverick", Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert for "Everything Everywhere All at Once", Martin McDonagh for "The Banshees of Inisherin" and Steven Spielberg for "The Fabelmans". Winners will be announced during the guild’s awards ceremony February 18 at the Beverly Hilton.

Netflix's upcoming original film "Spiderhead" is assembling quite an impressive cast. It has been recently confirmed that Chris Hemsworth ("Thor"), Miles Teller (Whiplas") and Jurnee Smollett ("Lovecraft Country") have signed on to star in the film, which is an adaptation of a George Saunders short story that first ran in The New Yorker and was later included in the author's bestselling anthology "Tenth of December".

The story is set in the near future when convicts are offered the chance to volunteer as medical subjects in hopes of shortening their sentences, and it follows two prisoners who become the test patients for emotion-altering drugs that force the prisoners to grapple with their pasts in a facility run by a brilliant visionary who supervises the program.

The film will be directed by "Top Gun: Maverick" helmer Joseph Kosinski from a script by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick ("Deadpool", "Zombieland"). Eric Newman will produce alongside Hemsworth, Reese, Wernick, Oren Katzeff, Geneva Wasserman, Tommy Harper and Jeremy Steckler.

Jon Hamm, Ed Harris and Lewis Pullman Join TOP GUN: MAVERICK

Jon Hamm, Ed Harris and Lewis Pullman (son of actor Bill Pullman) have joined the cast of "Top Gun: Maverick", the sequel to the 1986 classic directed by Tony Scott. Developed by Paramount, the film will be directed by Joseph Kosinski ("Tron Legacy", "Only the Brave") from a script by Peter Craig, Justin Marks, Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz. The cast already includes Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Glen Powell, Jennifer Connelly and Miles Teller.

Teller will star as the son of Maverick's former partner Goose, played in the original by Anthony Edwards. The plot will focus on Cruise's Pete Mitchell, now an instructor at the Top Gun school, who takes the young rookie under his wing. Kilmer will reprise his role as Tom "Iceman" Kazansky.

The supporting cast also includes Charles Parnell, Jay Ellis, Bashir Salahuddin, Danny Ramirez and Monica Barbaro. The original's producer Jerry Bruckheimer will be handling the sequel, and Harold Faltermeyer will return to write the score.

Production on the sequel has begun in June, and it will be released in theaters on July 12, 2019.

The drama "Only the Brave" tells the true story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, a group of elite firefighters who risked everything to protect a town while battling the Yarnell Hill Fire in June 2013. The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski ("Tron: Legacy") from a script written by Ken Nolan ("Black Hawk Down") and Eric Warren Singer ("American Hustle").

The ensemble cast features Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, James Badge Dale, Taylor Kitsch, Alex Russell, Ben Hardy, Jennifer Connelly, Jeff Bridges, Andie MacDowell and Scott Haze.

"Only the Brave" opened in theaters on October 20th, 2017 and received generally positive reviews that praised the cast and the powerful tribute to its real-life heroes. It grossed $6 million in its opening weekend at the box-office.

Josh Brolin ("Sicario") and Miles Teller ("Whiplash") are set to star in the firefighter action drama "No Exit". Directed by Joseph Kosinski ("Tron: Legacy") and developed from a story by "Black Hawk Down" scribe Ken Nolan, the film tells the true story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, a group of firefighters that faced a devastating wildfire on June 30, 2013 and lost 19 of its 20 crew members. The event known as the Yarnell Hill Fire was the deadliest wildfire of any kind since 1991, and the greatest loss of firefighters in the United States since the September 11 attacks. No production start date has been set for the film.

TRON 3 Canceled By Disney

Although we first heard in March that Disney is moving forward with the long-delayed "Tron 3", it seems that the studio is now ready to give up on the project entirely. The news surged throughout the Internet with many publications reporting that the sequel is no longer in production. Furthermore, it seems that Disney never actually green-lit the project, in the first place.

"Tron: Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski was expected to return at the helm, and stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde were set to reprise their roles. Reports about the cancellation also mention the fact that Jared Leto was in the running to star in an undisclosed role. Leto is now playing The Joker in David Ayer's "Suicide Squad".

Although it's probably heartbreaking news for the fans, the truth is that "Tron: Legacy" was not a huge breakthrough at the box-office and Disney does have some bad experience with costly blockbusters that flopped, for example "John Carter" and "Tomorrowland".

It's been five years since Disney's "TRON: Legacy" hit theaters, five years without any concrete plans for a sequel despite several attempts to push it forward. Now it seems that things are looking up for the project. Director Joseph Kosinski will return to helm the film, while THR is reporting that Legacy stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde will reprise the roles of Sam Flynn and the digital entity Quorra, respectively, for the sequel which is supposedly titled "Tron: Ascension". The title possibly refers to some rumors which suggest that the sequel's plot will involve entities leaving the digital world known as the Grid and stepping into our realm, like Quorra did at the end of Legacy. Filming is expected to begin this fall in Vancouver.
